Lenovo's new Chromebook has exclusive AI powers
The Chromebook team has been pushing Google Gemini AI powers, particularly on the more capable Chromebook Plus label, for a year and change. The new Lenovo Chromebook Plus 14, with a MediaTek processor boasting 50 TOPS, is a good example. Google used the upcoming Lenovo design to showcase Gemini's latest tricks at a press event last week. But I have to confess that I found the laptop itself, particularly its value proposition, more immediately gripping than the latest attempts to sell me a subscription that'll write my emails for me. The Chromebook Plus 14 combines a solid and lightweight build, a 14-inch OLED screen (touchscreen optional), generous memory (12GB or 16GB), and that MediaTek processor.
Hands on: The HP ZBook Ultra G1a smashes the 'work laptop' paradigm
I've searched high and low for an enterprise-grade laptop that's portable, has the tools I need to keep my work secure, but that's also powerful enough to run graphically demanding 3D models, design software, and games. But up until now the closest thing I've come across is a creator laptop that can't compete in the portability stakes. Plus it looks too industrial for the office -- yuk! In fact, it destroys it completely, combining an extremely lightweight, thin, and attractive chassis, a powerful AI-capable chipset, and most importantly – the one thing that has me so in awe – graphics power that can rival a gaming laptop. How much graphics power am I talking about?

AMD builds out its foundation with Ryzen AI 300, Ryzen 200 chips
AMD has typically pushed the envelope in performance, but at CES 2025, the company is also expanding in another direction, with cheaper, lower-performance Ryzen AI 300 and even a Ryzen 200 family that the company is encouraging both consumers and commercial customers to buy. In June, AMD launched the Ryzen AI 300 family, which combined 50 TOPS of AI power with a ton of conventional performance in our Ryzen AI 300 review, including in gaming performance as well. In October, it extended the Ryzen AI 300 to business customers, too. However, AMD built out its high-end Ryzen AI 300 series first, with the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 (12 cores/24 threads) and the Ryzen AI 9 365 (10 cores/20 threads). Today, it does the opposite, with the launch of four new Ryzen AI 300 series chips -- two each for consumers and business customers -- as well as seven new Ryzen 200 chips to provide slower, less expensive alternatives.
The strange new world of AI power, politics and the 'pause'
Join top executives in San Francisco on July 11-12, to hear how leaders are integrating and optimizing AI investments for success. The noisy debates around AI risk and regulation got many decibels louder last week, while simultaneously becoming even harder to decipher. There was the blowback from tweets by Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT) about ChatGPT, including that "Something is coming. Then there was the complaint to the FTC about OpenAI, as well as well as Italy's ban on ChatGPT. And, most notably, the open letter signed by Elon Musk, Steve Wozniak that proposed a six-month'pause' on large-scale AI development.

Microsoft applies AI powers to Excel, Outlook
Microsoft pressed on with its AI revolution on Thursday, announcing that it would apply the powers behind ChatGPT to its iconic Excel, Word and Outlook programs. The Redmond, Washington giant has been swiftly adopting language-based AI, showing less caution than its rivals despite early problems such as chatbots giving disturbing responses or blatantly inaccurate information. Microsoft's latest chatbot, called Copilot, will put ChatGPT-like abilities to work in offices, churning out meeting transcripts, calendar entries or PowerPoint slides almost instantaneously. The thrust of the new release is that generative AI, the term for ChatGPT style capabilities, will function as an assistant for users of Microsoft's popular workplace software and not unilaterally take over office tasks. "You could say we've been using AI on autopilot and with this next generation of AI, we are moving from autopilot to copilot," Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella said at a virtual release event.

AI Powers Latest Smart Sprayer Innovations
The term "artificial intelligence" has generated pages of dystopian copy surrounding the displacement of jobs and the dehumanization of the workplace, but in farm fields, AI and machine learning are proving to be an efficient ally of growers for combating weeds and keeping expenses in check. In the 1980s, researchers were elated when they developed sprayers capable of on-the-go determination between bare ground and growing plants -- a breakthrough that paved the way for what is now widely known as GreenSeeker technology. Crude sensors that differentiated the color of soil vs. the color of green plant material led to precision spectral radiance technology that provides the backbone of today's remote sensing used in precise fertilizer placement. As digital memory became increasingly miniaturized, it was possible to photograph and catalog various weeds in computer files used by applicators to further differentiate weeds from growing crops as they travel across fields -- the entry of AI into agriculture, a debut that will forever change farm practices. John Deere's first See & Spray system introduced in 2021 allowed growers to reduce their non-residual pre-emergence herbicide use by more than 75% by targeting and spraying only weeds on fallow ground.

China's rise as an AI power is an event of importance to the world and a potential challenge to liberal democracies. Filling a gap in the literature, this volume is fully documented, data-driven, and presented in a scholarly format suitable for citation and for supporting downstream research, while also remaining accessible to laypersons. It brings together 15 recognized international experts to present a full treatment of Chinese artificial intelligence. The volume contains chapters on state, commercial, and foreign sources of China's AI power; China's AI talent, scholarship, and global standing; the impact of AI on China's development of cutting-edge disciplines; China's use of AI in military, cyber, and surveillance applications; AI safety, threat mitigation, and the technology's likely trajectory. The book ends with recommendations drawn from the authors' interactions with policymakers and specialists worldwide, aimed at encouraging AI's healthy development in China and preparing the rest of the world to engage with it.
How AI powers modern product lifecycle management
We are excited to bring Transform 2022 back in-person July 19 and virtually July 20 - 28. Join AI and data leaders for insightful talks and exciting networking opportunities. Product development has long been an elevated science with frameworks, rules and significant research work conducted to ensure the product in question is fit-for-market and valued for its price. But not every company is using the full suite of tools available to tap into the collective wisdom of the consumer base. Developing a product that can make or break your organization is too important to get wrong or approach without sufficient intelligence. While most organizations adopting a product engineering mindset approach their product development cycles with a structured framework, they may fail to analyze and incorporate deep insights from the billions of online conversations about products, companies, and trends.
