Boycotts Hurt Tesla's Sales. Now, Activists Are Taking On Elon Musk's SpaceX IPO
Now, Activists Are Taking On Elon Musk's SpaceX IPO Activists, a leading labor union, and a big retirement fund are asking challenging questions about what's expected to be the largest-ever stock market debut. Elon Musk's SpaceX is facing protests against its expected initial public offering from some of the same advocacy groups that helped erase $600 billion from Tesla's market cap early last year. SpaceX's IPO is poised to be the largest ever, raising tens of billions of dollars for the Musk-founded company and valuing it above $2 trillion. If all goes as intended come June, the conglomerate that now owns a rocket manufacturer, a social media app, and an AI chatbot developer will instantly rank among the world's top 10 largest publicly-traded companies. On Wednesday, Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, wrote to the US Securities and Exchange Commission urging it to scrutinize SpaceX's IPO preparations.

People Are Protesting Data Centers--but Embracing the Factories That Supply Them
As the data center backlash grows, support is growing for server factories and the hundreds of jobs they're expected to bring. Last month, Pamela Griffin and two other residents of Taylor, Texas, took to the lectern at a city council meeting to object to a data center project. But later, they sat back as council members discussed a proposed tech factory. Griffin didn't speak up against that development. A similar contrast is repeating in communities across the US.

Micron Megafab Project Faces a New Hurdle as Activists Seek a Benefits Deal
Activists are demanding a way to hold the memory-chip maker accountable to its promises to protect the environment and embrace communities of color in central New York. Days after Micron broke ground on a $100 billion chip factory in New York state, a coalition of environmentalists, labor unions, and civil rights groups are urging the US tech giant to sign a deal that would make a series of promises to be a good neighbor legally enforceable. Micron's megafab to make memory chips is on track to become the biggest commercial development in state history and the largest chipmaking complex in the country . Officials held a groundbreaking ceremony in the city of Clay, near Syracuse, last Friday. The first chips could arrive in five years, though the entire site won't be finished for 20 years.

US Hackers Reportedly Caused a Blackout in Venezuela
Plus: AI reportedly caused ICE to send agents into the field without training, Palantir's app for targeting immigrants gets exposed, and more. As Immigration and Customs Enforcement continues its "Operation Metro Surge" infiltration of Minnesota, more than 2,000 ICE operatives and about 1,000 other federal agents have made more than 2,400 arrests since the operation began in late 2025, and tear gassed protesters. Last week, an ICE agent shot and killed local resident Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old US citizen. In response, the state of Minnesota and the Twin Cities' local governments sued the US government and several officials this week to stop the operation . WIRED reported on a contract justification published in a federal register on Tuesday that says 31 ICE vehicles currently operating in Minnesota "lack the necessary emergency lights and sirens" to be "compliant" with regulations.
