Dr Jessica Rose, a Canadian researcher and expert in immunology from Memorial University of Newfoundland, said her 2021 study exposing a connection between Covid vaccines and myocarditis was mysteriously withdrawn just three weeks after it was published by the journal Current Problems in Cardiology without explanation. Myocarditis is a dangerous inflammation of the heart that can cause chest pain, shortness of breath, fatigue, irregular heartbeat, and swelling in the legs. In severe cases, it can lead to heart failure, blood clots, stroke, or sudden death. Using information from a government-run database to track vaccine side effects, Rose found a significant increase in heart damage weeks after people received the Covid vaccine.

MP wants Elon Musk's chatbot shut down over claim he enabled grooming gangs

BBC News

MP wants Elon Musk's chatbot shut down over claim he enabled grooming gangs An MP has called for Elon Musk's artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot to be shut down after it called him a rape enabler. The Grok chatbot made the post on X about SNP MP Pete Wishart, after a user asked it to comment on the member's opinion on whether there should be an inquiry into grooming gangs in Scotland. Mr Wishart said he was seeking legal advice over the deeply distressing accusation and called for Musk to recalibrate the bot to shut it down. The BBC has approached XAI, the parent company of X, for comment. I was genuinely shocked to be described in such an appalling and defamatory way, Mr Wishart said in a statement.

Turing AI Institute boss denies accusations of 'toxic internal culture'

BBC News

Turing AI Institute boss denies accusations of'toxic internal culture' The Alan Turing Institute Chair has told the BBC there is no substance to a number of serious accusations which rocked the organisation in the summer. In August, whistleblowers accused the charity's leadership of misusing public funds, overseeing a toxic internal culture, and failing to deliver on its mission. They said the Turing Institute, the UK's national body for artificial intelligence (AI), was on the brink of collapse after Peter Kyle, the then technology secretary, threatened to withdraw its £100m funding. But speaking exclusively to the BBC, Chair Dr Doug Gurr said the whistleblower claims were independently investigated by a third party which found them to have no substance. I fully sympathise that going through any transition is always challenging, he said.

A real issue: video game developers are being accused of using AI – even when they aren't

The Guardian

In April, game developer Stamina Zero achieved what should have been a marketing slam-dunk: the launch trailer for the studio's game Little Droid was published on PlayStation's official YouTube channel. The response was a surprise for the developer. The game looks interesting, people wrote in the comments, but was "ruined" by AI art. But the game's cover art, used as the thumbnail for the YouTube video, was in fact made by a real person, according to developer Lana Ro. "We know the artist, we've seen her work, so such a negative reaction was unexpected for us, and at first we didn't know how to respond or how to feel," Ro said. It's not wrong for people to be worried about AI use in video games – in fact, it's good to be sceptical, and ensure that the media you support aligns with your values. Common arguments against generative AI relate to environmental impact, art theft and just general quality, and video game developers are grappling with how generative AI will impact their jobs.

'Easter truce' in Russia's Ukraine war marked by accusations of violations

Al Jazeera

Ukraine and Russia have accused each other of breaching an "Easter truce" announced by Russian President Vladimir Putin that Ukraine said was being violated from the moment it started. In a surprise announcement on Saturday, Putin ordered his forces to "stop all military activity" along the front line in the war against Ukraine, citing humanitarian reasons. The 30-hour cessation of hostilities would have been the most significant pause in the fighting throughout the three-year conflict. But just hours after the order was meant to have come into effect, air raid sirens sounded in Kyiv and several other Ukrainian regions, with President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accusing Russia of having maintained its attacks and engaging in a PR stunt. Russia's Ministry of Defence also alleged on Sunday that Ukraine had broken the truce more than 1,000 times.
