The information age is over, welcome to the machine learning age

#artificialintelligence

You could say the information age started in 1965 when Gordon Moore invented Moore's Law (a prediction about how transistors would double every year, later changed to every 18 months). Some would argue the information age started long before then, when electricity replaced steam power. In their book Machine, Platform, Crowd: Harnessing Our Digital Future, economic gurus Andrew McAfee and Erik Brynjolfsson suggest that we're now in the "machine learning" age. In the book, the authors explain why the transition from steam power to electric power took a long time.

The world's best Go player lost to Google's artificial intelligence

USATODAY

Go champion'speechless' after 2nd loss to machine Internet users outside China could watch this week's games live but Chinese censors blocked most mainland web users from seeing the Google site carrying the feed. Google says 60 million people in China watched online when AlphaGo played South Korea's go champion in March 2016. Chinese Go player Ke Jie reacts as he plays a match against Google's artificial intelligence program, AlphaGo, during the Future of Go Summit in Wuzhen in eastern China's Zhejiang Province. On Thursday, AlphaGo "thought that Ke Jie played perfectly" for the first 50 moves, Hassabis said at a news conference.

Machines 'not something to be feared'

Nearby in the lobby, a big-screen TV is flashing the words: Welcome back AlphaGo Team! But that is about as far as one can tell that the London company has just come home triumphant after making history last week by trouncing Go world champion Lee Se Dol with its supercomputer, AlphaGo. "Lee Se Dol is one of the greatest players of all time. IBM's Deep Blue took on world chess champion Garry Kasparov nearly 20 years ago and won, through sheer computational power.

CMUNITED-97: RoboCup-97 Small-Robot World Champion Team

AI Magazine

Robotic soccer is a challenging research domain that involves multiple agents that need to collaborate in an adversarial environment to achieve specific objectives. In this article, we describe CMUNITED, the team of small robotic agents that we developed to enter the RoboCup-97 competition. We designed and built the robotic agents, devised the appropriate vision algorithm, and developed and implemented algorithms for strategic collaboration between the robots in an uncertain and dynamic environment. The article then focuses on the agent behaviors, ranging from low-level individual behaviors to coordinated, strategic team behaviors.
