Hi there, could you tell us a little about Benevolent AI and your motivations as a company? Despite the huge growth of knowledge, scientific discovery has not changed for 50 years. It's impossible for humans alone to process all the information potentially available to advance scientific research. A new scientific paper is published every 30 seconds, there are 10,000 updates to PubMed every day. Consequently, only a small fraction of globally generated scientific information can form'useable' knowledge.

That's because artificial intelligence bots are collecting vast amounts of data by poring over spreadsheets, contracts and accounts payable and receivables.

Besides the inverted initialism, what does international arbitration ("IA") and artificial intelligence ("AI") have in common? Sure, both IA and AI are leading alternatives to the status quo: IA to traditional dispute resolution, AI to traditional methods of production.

Artificial intelligence startups worldwide raised a record $15.2 billion in 2017, according to American research firm CB Insights. Chinese businesses accounted for 48% of the total, up from just 11.6% in 2016. The U.S. placed second with 38%.

Investment and interest in Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now white hot as we enter the second decade of the 21st century. Interestingly, AI is now almost a passé term. Machine Learning and advanced pattern recognition is now gaining notoriety as the "new" approach to apply the concept of AI, having been successfully applied to many problems in academia and industry. Several use cases have been identified delivering legitimate Return on Investment. These recent advances can be attributed to the presence of greater access to more data, coupled with new, more powerful computer hardware and processing power.

But, here is a question Yamaha probably did not think of: who will be the talent to applaud at the end of the performance? Is the piano a genius? Is the dancer brilliant for creating a choreography that an instrument can recite? Or is it the creator of the AI who must receive the congratulations? Every creative part certainly deserves recognition, but should the AI be even praised at all?
