5 Best Smart Locks (2025), Tested and Reviewed
The best smart locks can help anyone who constantly misplaces keys or who frequently wonders whether they locked the front door. I am in the latter camp. After years in apartments, I recently moved to a large enough house that checking whether the door is locked can feel like a chore, especially once I'm all cozy in bed. Installing a smart lock doesn't mean throwing away your house keys--you probably still want to bring them with you. These locks are all about convenience, offering multiple ways to enter, like a passcode via a keypad, fingerprint scanning, or through an app. You can easily share codes with friends and family, so no need to fuss with crappy key copies, and you can usually set them to auto-lock when the door closes.

State Bar of California admits it used AI to develop exam questions, triggering new furor
Nearly two months after hundreds of prospective California lawyers complained that their bar exams were plagued with technical problems and irregularities, the state's legal licensing body has caused fresh outrage by admitting that some multiple-choice questions were developed with the aid of artificial intelligence. The State Bar of California said in a news release Monday that it will ask the California Supreme Court to adjust test scores for those who took its February bar exam. But it declined to acknowledge significant problems with its multiple-choice questions -- even as it revealed that a subset of questions were recycled from a first-year law student exam, while others were developed with the assistance of AI by ACS Ventures, the State Bar's independent psychometrician. "The debacle that was the February 2025 bar exam is worse than we imagined," said Mary Basick, assistant dean of academic skills at UC Irvine Law School. Having the questions drafted by non-lawyers using ...

ChatGPT-maker wants to buy Google Chrome
The current trial is looking at remedies to curtail Google's dominance in online search, as the recent explosion in generative AI services such as ChatGPT has expanded the market. Newer AI models search the internet to improve results and reduce hallucination, which has been a problem from developers since chatbots started to become popular. Last year, OpenAI offered to do a deal with Google which would have integrated Google search results into ChatGPT, according to Mr Turley's testimony. But he says their offer was rejected. "We have no partnership with Google today," Mr Turley said, according to Reuters. OpenAI does however have a partnership with Microsoft, which makes the Bing search engine and Edge browser.

Clair Obscur Expedition 33 review: An original hit RPG
It's rare for a turn-based RPG to excite the editorial team beyond Engadget's usual core RPG fans. Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has many excited, however. Maybe it's the characters, bolstered by a starry voice artist roster, and nuanced animation and story. Expedition 33 does a great job setting up its world in a way that allows everyone to get on board. Lumiere, which seems to be a chunk of Paris plus change, is doomed to repeat a cycle of death, with a powerful godlike figure, the Paintress, looming on the horizon.
