Nvidia Places Bet on Artificial Intelligence With New Chip
Nvidia Corporation has built a new deep-learning chip, the Tesla P100, with 15 billion transistors for deep-learning computing. The Santa Clara technology firm is betting that its computer graphics expertise will aid in making a name for itself in artificial intelligence and virtual reality. CEO Jen-Hsun Huang said that it is the biggest chip ever made. The company also unveiled a machine that uses the chip to perform scientific computing at extremely high-speed. PC World reports that the American technology company's new massive chip packs numerous cutting-edge technologies such as second-gen high-bandwidth memory; the tech firm's own Pascal GPU architecture; 16nmFinFET transistors; and Nvidia's blazing-fast NVLink interconnect technology.
