There are literally hundreds of thousands of potentially relevant scientific papers published each year, no one has the capability to read through all of them or even read the review articles that attempt to summarize them. We've already surpassed the one million papers per year mark, and the curve appears to be exponential (even if that doesn't persist it's still an untenable amount of information for any human, or even group of humans, to realistically delve into.)
