Watch a 1950s retro calculator asked to divide 0 by 0 have a mechanical meltdown

Daily Mail - Science & tech

It's not just us that can freak out when we can't solve a complex maths problem. The answer to'what is one divided by zero?' causes old-fashioned calculators to have a mechanical meltdown. A video shows a 1950s Facit ESA-01 pin-wheel calculator flicking through numbers in a vain attempt to solve the equation – and it's not known how long it perseveres with the problem. A similar maths question - 'what is zero divided by zero' brings up error messages on modern calculators, too, and causes the iPhone's Siri to turn into a bit of a comedian. The video, by YouTube user MultiGlizda gives an insight into the internal workings of the Swedish vintage calculator that can multiply a nine-digit number by an eight-digit number to give a 13-digit answer.
