PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) -- MossRehab, in Elkins Park, is now the first in the country to use three pieces of advanced technology to help patients with brain injuries regain movement, strength, mobility and balance.Listen Live Now on KYWThe rehabilitation devices come from THERA-Trainer, a German company, according to Dr. Alberto Esquenazi, chief medical officer of the facility."This "It has never had equipment in the U.S., so we are the very first ones to have received this robotic technology to help individuals with neurological injuries learn to balance -- and then relearn how to walk."One device is used for improving mobility from bed, another is used for balance and postural control, and the third is used to train patients to walk.Esquenazi says the system gives therapists three more ways to help people transition from being bedridden, to standing to walking. Getting access to these treatments should help patients speed their recovery and their exit from physical therapy, he added.According to Dr. Esquenazi, the devices can be set up for the patient in just a few minutes, so treatment begins quickly and therapists have more time for patient care.
