A flexible economy needed to create jobs of the future

As the CSIRO reported last Friday, artificial intelligence, cognitive computing, robotics and automation are transforming the world of work. This transformation will be bigger and faster than the industrial revolution, and the waves of changes will be ongoing. By 2035, three-quarters of Australian jobs will be significantly altered by the digital revolution, resulting in over 6 million full-time jobs disappearing, according to recent research by The Boston Consulting Group. In just two decades over one-third of jobs as we know them will be automated, prompting the public and private sectors to consider how best to re-educate the workforce for a future of innovation and jobs previously unimagined. Governments will be challenged by a rate of job destruction that will be at'recession' like levels for decades.
