"Most detailed" map of the brain unveiled
A stunning new map of the brain could revolutionise our understand of how it works. Researchers say the new models have already uncovered 100 previously unknown regions of the brain. They say it could revolutionise out understanding of our own mind, and also lead to radical new types of brain surgery. The researchers discovered that our brain's cortex, or outer mantle, is composed of 180 distinct areas per hemisphere. For example, the image above shows areas connected to the three main senses – hearing (red), touch (green) vision (blue) and opposing cognitive systems (light and dark).
