ChatGPT-owner OpenAI Fixes 'significant Issue' Exposing User Chat Titles - DellyRanks

#artificialintelligence

As a result of the fix, users will not be able to access their chat history between 1 am PDT (8 am GMT) and 10 am PDT on March 20, Chief Executive Sam Altman said in a tweet. ChatGPT has seen a meteoric growth rate after its launch late last year as people worldwide got creative with prompts that the conversational chatbot uses to create everything from poems and novels to jokes and film scripts. Last week, Microsoft Corp-backed OpenAI launched its artificial intelligence model GPT-4, an upgrade from GPT-3.5, which was made available to users through ChatGPT on Nov. 30. The integration of OpenAI's GPT technology into Microsoft's Bing has driven people to the little-used search engine, according to data from analytics firm Similarweb.

Elon Musk's AI warning is 'unprecedented' and shows 'extraordinary' level of concern, says Douglas Murray

FOX News

Fox News contributor Douglas Murray joined'Fox & Friends' to discuss why Musk and other experts are calling for a halt to artificial intelligence systems for six months. In an open letter, tech experts and leaders in the industry called for a six-month pause on AI experiments, a move that Fox News contributor Douglas Murray believes shows a "deep concern" that is growing about the risks of artificial intelligence. The letter, which was signed by Elon Musk and Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak, reads, in part: "AI systems with human-competitive intelligence can pose profound risks to society … and should be planned for and managed with commensurate care. Murray said on "Fox & Friends" Wednesday that the request for a moratorium is extraordinary and is a sign that experts are worried. I INTERVIEWED CHATGPT AS IF IT WAS A HUMAN; HERE'S WHAT IT HAD TO SAY THAT GAVE ME CHILLS "The fact that there has now been this stressing that we could be in trouble.

Elon Musk calls for pause on developing 'dangerous' AI

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Elon Musk and 1,000 other technology leaders including Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak are calling for a pause on the'dangerous race' to develop AI, which they fear poses a'profound risk to society and humanity' and could have'catastrophic' effects. In an open letter on The Future of Life Institute, Musk and the others argued that humankind doesn't yet know the full scope of the risk involved in advancing the technology. They are asking all AI labs to stop developing their products for at least six months while more risk assessment is done. If any labs refuse, they want governments to'step in'. Musk's fear is that the technology will become so advanced, that it will no longer require - or listen to - human interference.

GPT-4 and the Next Frontier of Generative AI

#artificialintelligence

This is a follow-up to my part 1 on ChatGPT. GPT-4 has burst onto the scene! Open AI officially released the larger and more powerful successor to GPT-3 with many improvements, including the ability to process images, draft a lawsuit, and handle up to a 25,000-word input.¹ During testing, Open AI reported that it was smart enough to find a solution for solving a CAPTCHA by hiring a human on taskrabbit to do it for GPT-4.² Yes, you read that correctly.

Pupils should do some coursework 'in front of teachers' amid fears they use ChatGPT to cheat

Daily Mail - Science & tech

Pupils should be made to do some of their coursework'in class under direct supervision', exam boards have said - amid fears students are cheating their way through school. Recently, breakthroughs in artificial intelligence such as ChatGPT have led to concerns that young people may use them to achieve higher grades. The program is able to create writing and other content – such as coursework or essays - almost indistinguishable from that of a human. The Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ), which represents the UK's major exam boards, has published guidance for teachers and assessors on'protecting the integrity of qualifications' in the context of AI use. Schools should make pupils aware of the risks of using AI and the possible consequences of using it'inappropriately' in assessment, the guidance said.

The Robots Are Coming: The Rise of OpenAI and ChatGPT - CTaccess

According to the New York Times, Google became the World's largest search engine in 2000 when it reached the point where it indexed over 1 billion web pages. Since then, Google has become a household word. We "Google it" to learn anything we need, want, or are just curious about. The supremacy of Google has reigned for the last 20 years in the search engine space. Interestingly, recent developments in artificial intelligence (AI) with the OpenAI and ChatGPT engine are causing many to question whether the rule of Google will end.

The Delusion at the Center of the A.I. Boom

Slate

The HBO show is a prequel to Game of Thrones, and that series ended so badly I don't want anything more to do with that fictional world. But maybe A.I. could change my mind? At South by Southwest earlier this month, Greg Brockman, president of OpenAI, the company that created ChatGPT, said, "Imagine if you could ask your A.I. to make a new ending that goes in a different way." Could A.I. be the solution to fixing every novel and script someone has a problem with--customizing revisions to make them shorter or longer, less or more violent, more or less "woke"? Even if A.I. could make changes to movies and books that you personally find dissatisfying, part of those works' value lies in the shared conversations they inspire--conversations that require opinions about common, historically situated texts.

Elon Musk joins call for pause in creation of giant AI 'digital minds'

#artificialintelligence

More than 1,000 artificial intelligence experts, researchers and backers have joined a call for an immediate pause on the creation of "giant" AIs for at least six months, so the capabilities and dangers of systems such as GPT-4 can be properly studied and mitigated. The demand is made in an open letter signed by major AI players including Elon Musk, who co-founded OpenAI, the research lab responsible for ChatGPT and GPT-4; Emad Mostaque, who founded London-based Stability AI; and Steve Wozniak, the co-founder of Apple. Its signatories also include engineers from DeepMind, Microsoft, Meta, Google and Amazon, as well as academics including the cognitive scientist Gary Marcus. "Recent months have seen AI labs locked in an out-of-control race to develop and deploy ever more powerful digital minds that no one – not even their creators – can understand, predict, or reliably control," the letter says. "Powerful AI systems should be developed only once we are confident that their effects will be positive and their risks will be manageable."
