OpenAI's Whisper model ported to C/C++

#artificialintelligence

OpenAI recently released a model for automatic speech recognition called Whisper. I decided to reimplement the inference of the model from scratch using C/C . To achieve this I implemented a minimalistic tensor library in C and ported the high-level architecture of the model in C . The entire code is less than 8000 lines of code and is contained in just 2 source files without any third-party dependencies.

How ChatGPT could make it easy to cheat on written tests and homework

Daily Mail - Science & tech

A new artificial intelligence chatbot could make it much easier for students to cheat on tests and homework that require written answers. Billed by technologists and industry watchers as the most powerful AI chatbot ever released, ChatGPT is the latest effort from OpenAI, a San Francisco-based company that also made tools like DALL-E 2, the image generator that made a splash earlier this year. ChatGPT, which has been trained on a gigantic sample of text from the internet, can understand human language, conduct conversations with humans and generate detailed text that many have said is human-like and quite impressive. 'We've trained a model called ChatGPT which interacts in a conversational way,' OpenAI said in a statement. 'The dialogue format makes it possible for ChatGPT to answer followup questions, admit its mistakes, challenge incorrect premises, and reject inappropriate requests.'

OpenAI's ChatGPT Banned From Coding Q&A Forum Stack Overflow for Wrong Answers - Voicebot.ai

#artificialintelligence

Stack Overflow, the popular discussion and answer source for programmers, has announced an official, though temporary, ban on responses produced by OpenAI's new ChatGPT chatbot. Moderators cited concerns about the accuracy of the AI's answers as the main reason for the new rule, though the standards may undergo revision after further investigation and debate. OpenAI highlights ChatGPT's ability to write, edit, and assist with coding on the chatbot's introductory page, and it's very easy to generate answers and coding templates with the tool. That simplicity doesn't mean the answers are accurate, however. The errors may be obvious or subtle, but users can't assume ChatGPT gets it right immediately.

ChatGPT Is Dumber Than You Think

The Atlantic - Technology

As a critic of technology, I must say that the enthusiasm for ChatGPT, a large-language model trained by OpenAI, is misplaced. Although it may be impressive from a technical standpoint, the idea of relying on a machine to have conversations and generate responses raises serious concerns. First and foremost, ChatGPT lacks the ability to truly understand the complexity of human language and conversation. It is simply trained to generate words based on a given input, but it does not have the ability to truly comprehend the meaning behind those words. This means that any responses it generates are likely to be shallow and lacking in depth and insight. Furthermore, the reliance on ChatGPT for conversation raises ethical concerns.

Why Everyone's Talking About ChatGPT, a Mindblowing AI Chatbot - CNET

#artificialintelligence

The tool, from a power player in artificial intelligence, lets you type questions using natural language that the chatbot answers in conversational, if somewhat stilted, language. The bot remembers the thread of your dialog, using previous questions and answers to inform its next responses. The tool seems pretty knowledgeable if not omniscient -- it can be creative and its answers can sound downright authoritative. A few days after its launch, more than a million people are trying out ChatGPT. But its creator, the for-profit research lab called OpenAI, warns that ChatGPT "may occasionally generate incorrect or misleading information," so be careful.

What Is ChatGPT? A Look Inside The AI Chatbot Dominating Social Media

International Business Times

A new advanced AI chatbot has emerged, taking over Twitter and presenting a new era of technology to the public. ChatGPT is a new advanced artificial intelligence chatbot created by the tech company OpenAI. The software was opened for testing last week with over one million users testing the site, according to OpenAI's co-founder Sam Altman. ChatGPT stands for "generative pre-trained transformer" and is the next iteration of OpenAI's GPT-3 chatbot. It is one of the first consumer-based AI of its kind to have a free, easy-to-use interface.

Adobe Stock begins selling AI-generated artwork

#artificialintelligence

On Monday, Adobe announced that its stock photography service, Adobe Stock, would begin allowing artists to submit AI-generated imagery for sale, Axios reports. The move comes during Adobe's embrace of image synthesis and also during industry-wide efforts to deal with the rapidly growing field of AI artwork in the stock art business, including earlier announcements from Shutterstock and Getty Images. Submitting AI-generated imagery to Adobe Stock comes with a few restrictions. The artist must own (or have the rights to use) the image, AI-synthesized artwork must be submitted as an illustration (even if photorealistic), and it must be labeled with "Generative AI" in the title. Further, each AI artwork must adhere to Adobe's new Generative AI Content Guidelines, which require the artist to include a model release for any real person depicted realistically in the artwork.

ChatGPT's Most Charming Trick Is Also Its Biggest Flaw

WIRED

Like many other people over the past week, Bindu Reddy recently fell under the spell of ChatGPT, a free chatbot that can answer all manner of questions with stunning and unprecedented eloquence. Reddy, CEO of Abacus.AI, which develops tools for coders who use artificial intelligence, was charmed by ChatGPT's ability to answer requests for definitions of love or creative new cocktail recipes. Her company is already exploring how to use ChatGPT to help write technical documents. "We have tested it, and it works great," she says. ChatGPT, created by startup OpenAI, has become the darling of the internet since its release last week.

A.I. Could Be Great for College Essays

Slate

Every year, the artificial intelligence company OpenAI improves its text-writing bot, GPT. And every year, the internet responds with shrieks of woe about the impending end of human-penned prose. This cycle repeated last week when OpenAI launched ChatGPT--a version of GPT that can seemingly spit out any text, from a Mozart-styled piano piece to the history of London in the style of Dr. Seuss. The response on Twitter was unanimous: The college essay is doomed. Why slave over a paper when ChatGPT can write an original for you?
