Boosting the consumer experience with AI FinTk²
Brands are increasingly leveraging the power of artificial intelligence to make the consumer experience more relevant and to better-approximate human-to-human interactions. AI can allow companies to personalize the marketing experience while saving money for brands. Brands are using artificial intelligence to build better customer experiences and they're just getting started. IDC predicts that global spending on cognitive systems will reach $31.3 billion by 2019. Accenture found that AI could double economic growth rates by 2035 and boost labor productivity by 40%.
[slides] Large Scale #MachineLearning @ThingsExpo #BigData #IoT #ML
So, you bought into the current machine learning craze and went on to collect millions/billions of records from this promising new data source. Now, what do you do with them? Too often, the abundance of data quickly turns into an abundance of problems. How do you extract that "magic essence" from your data without falling into the common pitfalls? In her session at @ThingsExpo, Natalia Ponomareva, Software Engineer at Google, provided tips on how to be successful in large scale machine learning.
ARC: Year Two - ARC
"Continuous improvement is better than delayed perfection." Over the last couple of years, I have seen a lot of handwringing among the Technorati about how innovation is dead and that, from now on, there will only be boring iteration. The Mobile Revolution caused a dynamic shift in the way people interact with computers in ways that we can both measure … and have no idea it is even taking place. Smartphones gave rise to the apps economy and endless opportunity. But, as all cycles do, the luster of the Mobile Revolution is beginning to fizz out. It's incredibly difficult to build a new app and become a success, smartphones have become commodities and the cloud is so ubiquitous that people hardly give it a second thought anymore.
Application of Artificial Intelligence in Cyber Security
In this article, we take a look at the growing use of artificial intelligence in cyber security as security professionals try to stay a step ahead of the constant barrage of threats and cyber-attacks. Evolving technologies and the growing numbers of "always on", "always connected" devices, tools and commodities are giving the instigators of cyber-threats increased opportunities for access and interference. With statistics suggesting that assaults on individuals, corporations, and government bodies account for almost $400 billion in lost revenue annually, and some 90% of companies admitting to having been victim to some kind of attack – figures that translate to 18 individuals per second being affected by cyber-crime – countering these threats is a real and ongoing concern, for enterprises. Security personnel are finding themselves overwhelmed by the multiplicity of attack vectors and tools available to the cyber-criminals, and are increasingly looking to a new ally, in the quest for cyber security: AI. AI is a sub-division of computer science dealing with the development of systems and software capable of acting intelligently, and doing things that would normally be done by people – equally as well, or sometimes better.
Samsung Galaxy S8 To Come With An AI Assistant Service
Samsung Electronics announced Sunday that it will include an artificial intelligence assistance service in its upcoming Galaxy S8 smartphones. In addition to the Galaxy smartphone, the virtual assistance will also be incorporated into other products, including home appliances and wearable technology devices, according to media reports. "Our Galaxy smartphones don't provide services that enable consumers to order pizza or coffee, but does provide third party applications. But the new AI platform will enable consumers to do things that they would usually do through a separate third party application," Samsung reportedly said in a statement. Samsung, which plans to launch the Galaxy S8 early next year, recently announced the acquisition of the San Jose, California-based AI company Viv Labs, which was founded by the creators of Apple's Siri service.
Senior Data Scientist - @adam_rab (Python, SAS, Hadoop, R, Matlab, Machine learning, natural language processing, CPlex, C , etc.)
By providing us with your information, you agree to become a Bullhorn Reach User, and to our use and disclosure of your information as described by our Privacy Policy. My clients are looking for computer scientists, statisticians, biostatisticians, physicists, computational social scientists, economists, engineers, operations researchers- in short they are looking for Data Scientist with strong hands on experience in "Big Data" as well as predictive modeling, optimization, machine learning, neural networks using a range of advanced technical tools (Python, SAS, Hadoop, R, Matlab, Machine learning, natural language processing, CPlex, C, etc.) This is a position that will be responsible for helping develop quantitative solutions to solve complex applications. The candidates will be involved in developing leading-edge, "out of the box" advanced analytic solutions and processes.
Britain can crack AI, if we put our minds to it
Sherry Coutu spends much of her time above the Atlantic, shuttling between Cambridge and Silicon Valley in search of the brightest talent in the technology sector. When it comes to artificial intelligence -- one of the fields expected to make the biggest difference to the way we live our lives over the coming decades -- she believes that Britain has an edge. "There is a huge amount of evidence to show that we are No 1," said the Canadian-born tech guru, who has lived in Britain since 1993. But, she added, "we are still growing fewer companies than we should". Artificial intelligence (AI) is an overused term. Some big companies attempt to pass off basic systems that simply provide automated responses to consumers as an "AI solution".
Can machines think, and what machine learning can teach us
One of people's biggest fears about artificial intelligence is that machines will rise up and humanity will be obsolete, that we will give'them' too much power and control, and they will take over through either benevolence or malevolence. The root of many of these science fiction horror stories is the ability for the machines to think for themselves and come to a reasoned logical conclusion. We have had a test for machine intelligence in the form of the Turing test, which sees if a machine can fool a human interrogator into thinking they are talking to another human. However, the test is not without its problems and one of my favourite criticisms of Turing's test came over Twitter: The Turing test is like saying planes don't fly unless they can fool birds into thinking they're birds. Initially I thought "ok, fair point - we are defining that the only true intelligence is described by the properties humans exhibit", and while one of the better responses did point out that cherry picking a single feature was not the same as the Turing Test, it did get me thinking based on my initial interpretation of the Tweet.
The need for Consciousness in an AI System
Last March Microsoft released an AI bot called Tay which they were forced to close down within days of release. The reason was the bot learned from its users and then started to say unsavoury things. The bot had a deep learning neural network and was modifying itself according to its users behaviour. The developers took the bot down and started to try to modify its neural network software to prevent this happening. However, I think the problem is, that they are missing a software component, rather than needing to modify the neural net. In fact the neural net is behaving correctly.
Samsung to launch AI assistant service for Galaxy S8
SEOUL (Reuters) - Samsung Electronics Co Ltd said on Sunday it would launch an artificial intelligence digital assistant service for its upcoming Galaxy S8 smartphone, seeking to rebound from the Galaxy Note 7's collapse and differentiate its devices. The world's top smartphone maker in October announced the acquisition of Viv Labs Inc, a firm run by a co-creator of Apple Inc's Siri voice assistant program. Samsung plans to integrate the San Jose-based company's AI platform, called Viv, into the Galaxy smartphones and expand voice-assistant services to home appliances and wearable technology devices. Samsung is counting on the Galaxy S8 to help revive smartphone momentum after the discontinuation of fire-prone Galaxy Note 7s, which will hit its profit by $5.4 billion over three quarters through the first quarter of 2017. Investors and analysts say the Galaxy S8 must be a strong device in order for Samsung to win back customers and revive earnings momentum.
