#artificialintelligence

The eCommerceTimes column described combining "AI with blockchain allows for the secure, transparent review of data that is changed or moved over time, giving both the buyer and seller confidence in the validity, title and transfer of that bridge in Brooklyn." The May 18, 2017 column written by my Gardere colleagues Eric Levy, Eddie Block, and me and is entitled "Intertwining Artificial Intelligence With Blockchain" which describes Blockchain and includes a 1955 definition of AI from James McCarthy of Dartmouth College and a team of researchers as follows: An attempt will be made to find how to make machines use language, form abstractions and concepts, solve kinds of problems now reserved for humans, and improve themselves.

In Machine Learning, What is Better: More Data or better Algorithms

@machinelearnbot

"In machine learning, is more data always better than better algorithms?" No. There are times when more data helps, there are times when it doesn't. Probably one of the most famous quotes defending the power of data is that of Google's Research Director Peter Norvig claiming that "We don't have better algorithms. We just have more data.". This quote is usually linked to the article on "The Unreasonable Effectiveness of Data", co-authored by Norvig himself (you should probably be able to find the pdf on the web although the original is behind the IEEE paywall).

In-Depth: AI in Healthcare- Where we are now and what's next

#artificialintelligence

The days of claiming artificial intelligence as a feature that set one startup or company apart from the others are over. These days, one would be hard-pressed to find any technology company attracting venture funding or partnerships that doesn't posit to use some form of machine learning. But for companies trying to innovate in healthcare using artificial intelligence, the stakes are considerably higher, meaning the hype surrounding the buzzword can be deflated far more quickly than in some other industry, where a mistaken algorithm doesn't mean the difference between life and death. Over the past five years, the number of digital health companies employing some form of artificial intelligence has dramatically increased. CB Insights tracked 100 AI-focused healthcare companies just this year, and noted 50 had raised their first equity rounds since January 2015.

Google's AI tech can now learn, replicate on its own

#artificialintelligence

Google.ai will see AI benefit every Google product under the sun. Put away your machine learning degrees -- artificial intelligence is now at the stage where it's ready to replicate and improve on itself, according to Google. Googlers have designed AIs that are capable of "learning to learn," said CEO Sundar Pichai, speaking Wednesday at Google I/O, the company's annual developer's conference in Mountain View, California. "We are excited about designing better machine learning models, but these days it is really painstaking," said Pichai. I would probably spend the time on simple (yet useful) algorithms that are representative of these fields (and maybe save reinforcement learning for later).
