Amazing analysis of the Brexit with machine learning

#artificialintelligence

For more than 30 years, Gibbs has advised on and developed product and service marketing for many businesses and he has consulted, lectured, and authored numerous articles and books. So the UK has just given itself a national headache. Whether you think the Brexit was the right decision or a dangerous and unmitigated screw-up (as I do), the consequences of the referendum will be non-trivial and take years to complete. But the mechanics of the UK exiting the European Union aside, the question of how people now feel about the Brexit is interesting. Are they awash in jubilation or has buyer's remorse set in?

Artificial intelligence, which has been around since the 1950s, has seen ebbs and flows in popularity over the last 60 years. But today, with the recent explosion of big data, high-powered parallel processing, and advanced neural algorithms, we are seeing a renaissance in AI--and companies from Amazon to Facebook to Google are scrambling to take the lead. According to AI expert Roman Yampolskiy, 2016 is the year of "AI on steroids." Why Dick's Sporting Goods decided to play its own game in e commerce Dick's Sporting Goods has long partnered with eBay Enterprise on its e -commerce platform. Learn the benefits and risks of this multi -million dollar IT bet.

Tactical AI beats US Air Force colonel in dogfighting simulation

#artificialintelligence

Whether it's Deep Blue beating Garry Kasparov at chess, Watson defeating Ken Jennings at Jeopardy!, or Google DeepMind's AlphaGO besting Lee Sedo at Go, artificial intelligence can't be underestimated when it comes to taking on the champions and winning. That's because a new AI system called ALPHA -- developed by recent University of Cincinnati doctoral graduate Nick Ernest, now CEO of Psibernetix -- recently defeated retired United States Air Force Colonel Gene Lee in an air combat simulator. Not only did Colonel Lee, who has extensive aerial combat experience as an instructor, fail to kill ALPHA's aircraft during combat, he was also repeatedly shot out of the air by the bot. According to Lee, ALPHA is "the most aggressive, responsive, dynamic and credible AI I've seen to date." Related: Israel's new'RoBattle' bot is built with swappable modules "ALPHA is an incredibly difficult opponent to face," Psibernetix CEO Nick Ernest tells Digital Trends. "Even flying against other pilots when ALPHA has severe handicaps to a number of its systems -- including speed, turning, missile capability and sensors -- it is able to win.

UBER's Head of Machine Learning Thinks You Might be Doing it Wrong

Lange argues that most companies don't need to collect months of data after implementing a machine learning system before they derive value. Instead, look at the historical information that you already have and feed it to a supervised machine learning system (an algorithm that takes a known set of inputs and a matching known set of outputs and trains a model to generate predictions for responses to new data). Companies often have reams of saved customer service data that can yield lots of valuable insights, like how lead sources correlate to refunds, or how service packages are related to the amount of customer support a particular customer requires. The key is to choose existing data that is related to your main problem or question so that you drive ROI with purpose.

A Designer's Guide To The 15 Billion Artificial Intelligence Industry - PulpLab.com

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence is a 15 billion dollar industry and growing. With more than 2, 600 companies developing intelligent technology, the value of AI is expected to rise to more than 70 billion by 2020. For designers, that represents a major business opportunity. But AI is also a challenge requiring every strength and skill they've learned and many they haven't. They will have to understand sociology, psychology, and biology.

Buddy Ryan played by his own set of rules

Los Angeles Times

NFL coaching great Buddy Ryan, who passed away Tuesday at the age of 82, didn't have difficulty finding the spotlight wherever he went. From the New York Jets when they became the first AFL team to win a Super Bowl in 1968, to the Super Bears of 1985 to his last stop as the head man of the Arizona Cardinals in 1994-95, Ryan had a common theme -- "You got a winner in town." One of the best fits for that boisterous personality was his stop as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles from 1986 to 1990. He was brash, but his teams backed up his words. He made fun of the rich owner, Norman Braman -- "that guy in France" -- who spent a lot of time overseas, and connected with the blue-collar town.

Machine Learning: Perception Problem? Maybe. Pipe Dream? No Way!

#artificialintelligence

Almost all algorithmic assistants that utilize unsupervised machine learning have several skill sets based on modern data science. They can baseline normal behavior by accurately modeling time series data (any series of data with a time stamp on it – usually log data from servers, devices, endpoints, and applications); they can identify data points that are anomalous or "outliers;" and they can score the level of anomalousness of these outliers. Generally, you'll hear this set of skills packaged up under the term "machine learning anomaly detection."
