Artificial Intelligence Is Powerful Stuff, But Difficult To Scale To Real-Life Business - BI Insight - Business Intelligence
We now know that artificial intelligence (AI) can play a winning game of poker. But, alas, poker is a game of deceit, where one needs to remain calm and hold back any traces of emotions. In today's workplaces, it also helps to remain calm and hold back on emotions -- to an extent. But how many successful business leaders go through their days with constant poker faces? Alas, AI can't bring any of that good stuff to the table as of yet, and that is making it a hard sell.
Artificial intelligence is ripe for abuse, tech researcher warns: 'a fascist's dream'
As artificial intelligence becomes more powerful, people need to make sure it's not used by authoritarian regimes to centralize power and target certain populations, Microsoft Research's Kate Crawford warned on Sunday. In her SXSW session, titled Dark Days: AI and the Rise of Fascism, Crawford, who studies the social impact of machine learning and large-scale data systems, explained ways that automated systems and their encoded biases can be misused, particularly when they fall into the wrong hands. "Just as we are seeing a step function increase in the spread of AI, something else is happening: the rise of ultra-nationalism, rightwing authoritarianism and fascism," she said. All of these movements have shared characteristics, including the desire to centralize power, track populations, demonize outsiders and claim authority and neutrality without being accountable. Machine intelligence can be a powerful part of the power playbook, she said.
Huge Twitter hijack forces accounts to post swastikas, Nazi messages and pro-Erdogan propaganda
Thousands of Twitter accounts have been posting horrifying messages in Turkish, and there is nothing their owners can do about it. Many of the world's biggest publishers, companies and personalities have had their accounts taken over and used to post Nazi swastikas and references to Germany and the Netherlands. The messages are written in Turkish, make reference to the country's political situation and come amid heightened tensions between Turkey and the Netherlands after the latter kicked out two Turkish ministers and banned them from rallying. The Six Steps to Boosted Trees
BigML is bringing Boosted Trees to our ever-growing suite of supervised learning techniques. Boosting is a variation on ensembles that aims to reduce bias, potentially leading to better performance than Bagging or Random Decision Forests. In our first blog post of this series of six posts about Boosted Trees, we saw a gentle introduction to Boosted Trees to get some context about what this new resource is and how it can help you solve your classification and regression problems. This post will take us further, into the detailed steps of how to use boosting with BigML. To learn from our data, we must first upload it.
Intelligent process automation: The engine at the core of the next-generation operating model
Full intelligent process automation comprises five key technologies. Here's how to use them to enhance productivity and efficiency, reduce operational risks, and improve customer experiences. Since the financial crisis of 2007โ09, many companies have applied lean management to improve cost efficiencies, customer satisfaction, and employee engagement simultaneously, and many programs have achieved substantial impact on all dimensions. Progress on digital, however, has been more uneven. In the insurance sector, for example, an October 2016 FIS study found that 99.6 percent of insurers surveyed admitted they face obstacles in implementing digital innovation, while 80 percent recognize they need digital capabilities to meet business challenges.
The future of AI is neuromorphic. Meet the scientists building digital 'brains' for your phone 7wData
AI services like Apple's Siri and others operate by sending your queries to faraway data centers, which send back responses. The reason they rely on cloud-based computing is that today's electronics don't come with enough computing power to run the processing-heavy algorithms needed for machine learning. The typical CPUs most smartphones use could never handle a system like Siri on the device. But Dr. Chris Eliasmith, a theoretical neuroscientist and co-CEO of Canadian AI startup Applied Brain Research, is confident that a new type of chip is about to change that. "Many have suggested Moore's law is ending and that means we won't get'more compute' cheaper using the same methods," Eliasmith says.
Cartoon: What Happens When AI Masters the March Madness
For our non-US readers, March Madness is a nickname given to NCAA Men's and Women's Basketball Tournaments. It is a sports phenomenon that is very popular in the US. The affliction causes many people to fill a bracket to predict who will win at each stage. Offices typically have a March Madness pool, with the winner getting the prize. New KDnuggets Cartoon looks at what happens when AI masters the March Madness.
Artificial intelligence isn't science fiction โ it's a business fact
Artificial intelligence goes by many names--machine learning, augmented intelligence, neural networks and more. In fact, over a dozen terms are used to describe how machines are being used by organizations of all types to emulate human thinking, reasoning and decision-making. Artificial intelligence is simply machines emulating human thinking, reasoning, decision-making. Far from being the stuff of science fiction, AI is here now and creating exciting new opportunities for forward-thinking enterprises in every industry. If you want the real story about how AI may affect your organization--and your career--we have good news.
New gold rush: $100 billion Artificial Intelligence wave awaits tech companies
BENGALURU: Artificial Intelligence is expected to generate $100-120 billion by 2025 in productivity-led gains for the global ITBPM service providers, particularly in areas of consulting, engineering services, application development and others, a report by the Boston Consulting Group said. The report added that artificial intelligence could open up more than $400 billion in new addressable market over the next seven-to-ten years. "AI will completely redefine what is considered core, mid-or back-office ANIMI and help IT-BPM players penetrate'heart of the business' processes within verticals through BPaaS and domain-led solutions," BCG said. "This translates into 5-7 percentage points EBITDA impact for IT-BPM service providers" Indian IT players have already started investing in artificial insurance. Tata Consultancy Services has the the Ignio platform, Wipro has its Holmes platform, Infosys has the MANA platform, and HCL Technologies has a platform called DryICE. The consultancy, which put out the report in conjunction with the National Association of Software and Services Companies, outlined steps that companies should take to do well in the AI wave.
