deriving-business-value-from-deep-learning
In my job as a data scientist, I spend my time driving machine learning research and making it work in the real world. NEW for 2016: Featuring a comprehensive market overview, the top questions to ask providers, and full one-page profiles of the top-28 vendors for your enterprise. The challenge with cleaning data for use in all types of machine learning is that each data set is different, and understanding a certain data set typically requires considerable "tribal" knowledge. He provides guidance for SAS and its customers on deriving substantive value from machine learning technologies and designs new data mining & machine learning approaches, focusing on neural networks and clustering.
O'Reilly Launches Artificial Intelligence Conference
SEBASTOPOL, CA–(Marketwired – July 07, 2016) – The inaugural O'Reilly Artificial Intelligence Conference explores the real-world opportunities of applied AI on September 26 and 27, 2016, in New York City. O'Reilly Media founder and CEO Tim O'Reilly says that the explosion of intelligent software has just begun. Companies and developers working on applied AI require a different kind of knowledge than the research presented by existing academic conferences. The O'Reilly AI Conference fills that need with deeply practical sessions on AI today -- how to implement and interact with AI, use cases, and best practices -- as well as inquiries into the future of intelligence engineering. Peter Norvig and Tim O'Reilly serve as honorary program chairs for the first O'Reilly AI conference, with Ben Lorica and Roger Chen as program chairs.
Creative Applications of Deep Learning with TensorFlow Kadenze
Session 1: Introduction to Tensorflow We'll cover the importance of data with machine and deep learning algorithms, the basics of creating a dataset, how to preprocess datasets, then jump into Tensorflow, a library for creating computational graphs built by Google Research. We'll learn the basic components of Tensorflow and see how to use it to filter images. Session 2: Training A Network W/ Tensorflow We'll see how neural networks work, how they are "trained", and see the basic components of training a neural network. We'll then build our first neural network and use it for a fun application of teaching a neural network how to paint an image. Session 3: Unsupervised And Supervised Learning This session goes deep.
Analysis of ant colony behavior could yield better algorithms for network communication
Ants, it turns out, are extremely good at estimating the concentration of other ants in their vicinity. This ability appears to play a role in several communal activities, particularly in the voting procedure whereby an ant colony selects a new nest. Biologists have long suspected that ants base their population-density estimates on the frequency with which they--literally--bump into other ants while randomly exploring their environments. That theory gets new support from a theoretical paper that researchers from MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory will present at the Association for Computing Machinery's Symposium on Principles of Distributed Computing conference later this month. The paper shows that observations from random exploration of the environment converge very quickly on an accurate estimate of population density.
3 Chennai startups drive innovation in Soc Gen accelerator - Times of India
CHENNAI: Societe Generale's 10-week accelerator programme Catalyst has eight Indian startups working on various themes and three of them -Uniphore Software Systems, FixNix and Gavs Technologies are from Chennai, working on various risk and analytics tools that may be used by SocGen in future. FixNix, founded by Shanmugavel Sankaran, is trying to develop an early prediction based warning system for employee retention and proactive management of employee expectations. "We have a three-member team working on risk analytics in the accelerator. FixNix is getting aggressively into security and risk analytics for Indian and international banks, including Societe Generale, UBS," said Sankaran. The SaaS based governance, risk and compliance (GRC) startup has funding from ex-CIO of Tesla Jay Vijayan and other angel investors.
Can AI Take The Guesswork Out Of Beer Brewing? PYMNTS.com
Will the wonders of artificial intelligence ever cease? In the last decade or so, artificial intelligence has been increasing at a dramatic clip, and software developers and programmers have developed AIs that can do everything from beating a world class chess champion to diagnosing medical conditions to moving and stacking heavy objects on a factory floor. But now someone has taught an AI how to brew beer using an algorithm that is constantly taking in customer feedback and continuously tweaking the recipe – and the end results sound as though they could be deliciously intriguing. IntelligentX, a London-based firm, is using an algorithm known as Automated Brewing Intelligence (ABI) and a Facebook-based chatbot to solicit feedback from consumers of its beers. Consumers use the Facebook bot to give feedback on what they liked and didn't like about the taste of the company's four current brewery options – Amber AI, Black AI, Golden AI and Pale AI – and the algorithm then takes that feedback, and uses a reinforcement learning process known as "bayesian decision making" to determine what tweaks were and were not pleasing to customers, according to CNET.
sevamoo/SOMPY
As much as possible, the structure of SOM is similar to somtoolbox in Matlab. It has parallel processing option similar to sklearn format and it speeds up the training procedure, but it depends on the data size and mainly the size of the SOM grid.I couldn't manage the memory problem and therefore, I recommend single core processing at the moment. But nevertheless, the implementation of the algorith is carefully done for all those important matrix calculations, such as scipy sparse matrix and numexpr for calculation of Euclidean distance. Installation: Download and extract this repo. Copy the extracted folder to the'site-packages' folder of your Python installation. You can then import SOMPY.
Cozmo the AI robot gets even more powerful
Cozmo is an AI robot that learns about you over time. Powered by a so-called emotion engine, Cozmo recognizes faces and responds to external stimuli in order to develop its personality. The palm-sized robot can play games and has facial recognition -- but that's just the start. Developed by Anki, the company behind the Overdrive racing cars, Cozmo will soon get even more powerful. Anki will have a beta software development kit for Cozmo available to makers and hobbyists at its launch in October 2016, the company said Monday.
Germany enlists machine learning to boost renewables revolution
Renewable power sources such as wind now provide about one-third of Germany's electricity. The rows of towering wind turbines and legions of glistening solar panels spread across Germany's landscape are striking emblems of the country's shift to non-nuclear, low-carbon power. But although Germany is the world's poster child for renewable energy, its grids cannot yet cope with the erratic nature of wind and solar power. In June, German meteorologists, engineers and utility firms began to test whether big data and machine learning can make these power sources more grid-friendly. "To operate the grid more efficiently and keep fossil reserves at a minimum, operators need to have a better idea of how much wind and solar power to expect at any given time," says Malte Siefert, a physicist at the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy and Energy System Technology in Kassel, Germany, and a leader on the project, called EWeLiNE.
Scrapely: The Brains Behind Portia Spiders
Unlike Portia labiata, the hunting spider that feeds on other spiders, our Portia feeds on data. Considered the Einstein in the spider world, we modeled our own creation after the intelligence and visual abilities of its arachnid namesake. Portia is our visual web scraping tool which is pushing the boundaries of automated data extraction. Portia is completely open source and we welcome all contributors who are interested in collaborating. Now is the perfect time since we're on the beta launch of Portia 2.0, so please jump in!
