In addition, IRIS-NoiseSweeper software has also been ported to the Tensilica Vision DSP to provide premium video quality and cleaner still-images. The software is targeted at image noise reduction for high-resolution still images. The technology features an automated noise profile estimation that reduces calibration needs and shortens development time. It operates in a single frame and eliminates any motion-blurring phenomena associated with multi-frame techniques. The Tensilica family of imaging/vision DSPs was designed for the complex algorithms in imaging, video and computer vision applications including innovative multi-frame image capture, video pre- and post-processing, object and face recognition, low-light enhancement and many other complex tasks.


Mobileye Accelerates Self-Driving Car Technology With Delphi Deal

The road to self-driving cars got a little more crowded Tuesday, as Mobileye (MBLY) announced it will partner with General Motors (GM) supplier Delphi Automotive (DLPH) to jointly develop off-the-shelf autonomous driving technology for automakers. Mobileye, a Tesla supplier of advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), last month disclosed that its partnership with Tesla was ending. Mobileye is a leader in the development and production in computer vision systems, mapping and machine learning, while Delphi, a General Motors spinoff, is a leader in automated driving software, sensors and systems integration. Mobileye recently announced that it would team with BMW (BMWYY) and Intel (INTC) to develop a fully automated driving system, a partnership that one analyst called a "turning point" for autonomous vehicles.

The two companies announced they will co-develop "the market's first turnkey Level 4/5 automated driving solution," which carmakers could begin integrating into vehicles starting in 2019. Level 5 is totally self-driving, while Level 4 is close to complete autonomy. All the major automakers and a number of the largest tech companies are working to develop self-driving cars, mostly through joint ventures. This month, General Motors said it was testing self-driving cars in Scottsdale, Ariz.

When it comes to artificial intelligence (AI), UK senior business decision-makers overwhelmingly agree that can help improve customer experiences by providing new data. Nearly 50% also pointed to AI allowing for automation of tasks, freeing humans to focus on more valuable work. About one in four of those surveyed in July 2016 by Morar Consulting for digital agency Squiz say that AI will reduce human error, and some think AI will help them deliver services better. But there are plenty of AI concerns as well. Over one-third of those surveyed said their primary concern is with the very concept of AI itself: 36% said they took issue with the lack of human control or oversight in AI. For another 30%, the primary cause for concern was the expense of AI, and one in four cited errors made by the AI as their leading concern.

It's all right there in the parental-advice disclaimer: "things it says may seem inappropriate"; "whatever it says, visitors never talk to a human"; "use with discretion and at YOUR OWN RISK." These web apps can be amusing to screw around with, but what if natural-language AI was baked into a full-fledged video game? That's what Ocelot Society is going for with its upcoming narrative exploration game Event[0], which is now set for a September 14, 2016 release on Steam.


Prisma now lets you transform your photos into works of art offline

Prisma, the viral photography app that retouches your pics to resemble the work of famous artists, has updated its iOS app to allow for offline image processing. Half of the company's filters (that's 16 in total) are now available offline, with more in the pipeline, according to Prisma. In the past, the app would transform the look of your images into the style of a famous artist (such as Pablo Picasso or Roy Lichtenstein) by feeding the photo through an artificial intelligence. The AI would then reinterpret your image using a deep learning method known as neural networks. With its latest update for iOS, that algorithm will be available offline on a smartphone for the first time.
