Earlier this summer, humans submitted their selfies and computer scientists submitted their algorithms to be competitors and judges in the first beauty contest judged by artificial intelligence. The six AI judges were trained to evaluate wrinkles, face symmetry, skin color and several other parameters before choosing men and women winners in various age groups ranging from 18 to 69. A total of 60,000 people submitted their selfies, and the winners have been chosen. It actually stemmed from a project that involves using AI to evaluate health and hopefully slow aging in the future.

Solar-powered self-driving cars, reusable space ships, Hyperloop transportation, a mission to colonize Mars: Elon Musk is hell-bent on turning these once-far-fetched fantasies into reality. But none of these technologies has made him as leery as artificial intelligence. Earlier this summer at Code Conference 2016, Musk stated publicly that given the current rate of A.I. advancement, humans could ultimately expect to be left behind--cognitively, intellectually--"by a lot." His solution to this unappealing fate is a novel brain-computer interface similar to the implantable "neural lace" described by the Scottish novelist Iain M. Banks in Look to Windward, part of his "Culture series" books. Along with serving as a rite of passage, it upgrades the human brain to be more competitive against A.I.'s with human-level or higher intelligence.

At Microsoft's recent Worldwide Partner Conference, CEO Satya Nadella laid out his vision for a world in which A.I.-powered chatbots "fundamentally revolutionize how computing is experienced by everybody." Bots, according to Nadella, will become the next interface, shaping our interactions with the applications and devices we rely on. Of course, granting bots more control over our apps and devices naturally requires that we create rules to govern how they operate. Nadella earlier outlined a set of rules for bots that prioritizes empathy, efficiency and assistance. "A.I. must be designed to assist humanity," he wrote.

Due to the recent achievements of artificial neural networks across many different tasks (such as face recognition, object detection and Go), deep learning has become extremely popular. This post aims to be a starting point for those interested in learning more about it. If you already have a basic understanding of linear algebra, calculus, probability and programming: I recommend starting with Stanford's CS231n. The course notes are comprehensive and well-written. The slides for each lesson are also available, and even though the accompanying videos were removed from the official site, re-uploads are quite easy to find online.

NEW DELHI: While artificial intelligence is making waves globally, Cognitive Business Intelligence (BI) is the next stage of machine learning to design and analyse unstructured data, video, images and human language, say experts. According to them, we are generating data but is this data being analysed to create insights which could help in running businesses more effectively is the real concern for businesses. "This potential can be leveraged using Business Intelligence. Using BI, we can understand what really the data means," said Nikhilesh Tiwari, Co-Founder, Helical Insight, the world's first open source Business Intelligence (BI) framework. At the moment, less than 0.5% of all data is ever analysed and used globally.

The output of this task is a series of predictions about binaries' potential maliciousness and relationships to known malware families. These predictions are validated against outside intelligence.

I tend respond with links to resources by folks that I consider to be experts in the topic area. Over time my list has gotten a little larger so I decided to put it all together in a blog post. Since it is based mostly on the questions I have received, it is by no means complete, or even close to a complete list, but hopefully it will be of some use. Perhaps I will keep it updated, or even better yet, feel free to comment with anything you think might be of help.
