Not everyone is hyped about artificial intelligence
Artificial intelligence (AI) may be the hottest topic in the UK nowadays, but not everyone is certain about its business application, ROI and the impact on society. This was concluded after a research by IP EXPO Europe. Following a poll, it was revealed that a third (32 per cent) of respondents worry robots will replace humans, and almost a fifth (19 per cent) fear their job will be taken over by artificial intelligence more than they did a year ago. Also, as in many cases we still don't know what to expect, there is a certain level of risk involved. More than a fifth (22 per cent) also said AI could be used for cyber-breaches, just increasing the frustrations we have today.

Artificial Intelligence Program Passes College Entrance Exam
Artificial intelligence is now smart enough to be accepted into most Japanese universities. The National Institute of Informatics said Saturday that its AI program, developed with university and corporate researchers, achieved an above-average score on a college entrance exam for the first time. The test covered five subjects including math, physics and English. The institute has been seeking to develop an AI by 2021 that would be able to score high enough on Japan's standardized college entrance exam to be accepted into the University of Tokyo, the nation's top-ranked university. The AI received a score of 511 points out of 950, above the national average of 416, and did exceptionally well on math and history-related problems, the institute said.

Google DeepMind implemented an artificial intelligence program using deep reinforcement learning that plays Atari games and improves itself to a superhuman level. The technique is called deep Q-learning, it uses a combination of deep neural networks and reinforcement learning, and it is capable of playing many Atari games as good or better than humans. After presenting their initial results with the algorithm, Google almost immediately acquired the company for several hundred million dollars, hence the name Google DeepMind. Artificial neural networks were inspired by the human brain and simulate how neurons behave when they are shown a sensory input (e.g., images, sounds, etc). They are known to be excellent tools for image recognition, any many other problems beyond that - they also excel at weather predictions, breast cancer cell mitosis detection, brain image segmentation and toxicity prediction among many others. Deep learning means that we use an artificial neural network with multiple layers, making it even more powerful for more difficult tasks. This time they have been shown to be apt at reproducing the artistic style of many famous painters, such as Vincent Van Gogh and Pablo Picasso among many others. All the user needs to do is provide an input photograph and a target image from which the artistic style will be learned.

And with Microsoft's newest SwiftKey keyboard app, AI will guess what you're about to type next, too. On Thursday, Microsoft released a new version of its SwiftKey for Android that includes an AI technology called a neural network to try to improve its performance. Neural networks are related to human brains, with many interconnected neurons, but to be useful, they must be trained in advance using lots of carefully constructed real-world data.
NetraDyne uses artificial intelligence in new driver safety platform
Video safety systems are one of the fastest-growing technologies in the commercial and private fleet market. Besides the liability protection video gives fleets and their drivers, some of these systems have extensive risk management, driver training and business intelligence capabilities. Products with 360-degree camera views, extended recording and predictive'big data' analysis will be leading the market growth of video safety systems over the next two to five years, according to a January, 2016, report from industry analyst firm Frost & Sullivan. On Thurs., Sept. 15, NetraDyne announced a product with all of the above features and more. Founded in 2015, the San Diego-based company says its new video safety system was built from the ground up to focus on safety from the driver's perspective.
