Approximately 8 of the 319 million people in the United States read the Wall Street Journal, good for 2 percent of the population. If you look at the language -- standardized English -- being fed into many natural language processing units, it's based on the language of that 2 percent. And many machines literally use the venerable, business-focused newspaper to better understand English language. It might seem like an obvious choice. Standardized English is taught in schools, it's used in legal documents, and it sets the basis for formal society.

Artificial intelligence is becoming big news in Big Law. The move towards increased automation of legal services continues to gather momentum, with another top law firm turning to (AI) in an attempt to lower costs and improve efficiency. Travers Smith, a London-based firm known for its strength in corporate and private equity, has begun trialing due diligence technology developed by U.K. software company RAVN Systems. The news follows last week's announcement that magic circle firm Slaughter and May had signed a deal with Luminance, a new technology company that launched with the backing of investment fund Invoke Capital. Slaughters had been working with Luminance for several months to help it develop its AI software, which is able to read hundreds of pages of legal documentation every minute and is designed to speed up the due diligence process.

Sony CSL Research Labratory is releasing an album next year of songs written entirely by artificial intelligence. Of them, this derivative work could be the title track. The music for'Daddy's Car,'was written entirely by AI and put together by French composer Benoît Carré. Carré also wrote the lyrics and arranged the harmonies.

Pretty much one hundred percent of my generation is obsessed with Instagram. Unfortunately, I left the platform (sorry all) back in 2015. Simple reason, I am way to indecisive about which photos to post and what pithy caption to give them. Fortunately, with ample spare time, those who share my problem can now use an image captioning model in TensorFlow to caption their photos and put an end to the pesky first world problem. LNKD 0.04 % rolled out new technology and products Thursday aimed at keeping members on its network longer, a move that could help generate more data and make it more valuable to Microsoft Corp. MSFT 0.10 % LinkedIn, which agreed to sell itself for 26.2 billion to Microsoft in June, debuted training, messaging and news feed features designed to keep LinkedIn's 450 million members using the social network more often and longer. If successful, members will be more likely to keep their profiles up-to-date, add new connections, and post items that offer insight into their work interests. "There's a flywheel there," LinkedIn CEO Jeff Weiner said in an interview. "The more we understand who you are…, the more personal an experience we can create." One feature is LinkedIn Learning, training videos to help professionals learn new skills, such as computer coding, for their careers.

Certain groups of people, such as women and children, might be entitled to receiving help first, granting them a higher chance of survival. Knowing whether you belong to one of these privileged groups would help predict whether you would make it out alive. To identify which groups have higher survival rates, we can use decision trees. While we forecast the rate of survival here, decision trees are used in a a wide range of applications.
