This mobile robot has just two moving parts - AI Trends

#artificialintelligence

The only other active moving part of the robot is the body itself. The spherical induction motor (SIM) invented by Hollis, a research professor in Carnegie Mellon University's Robotics Institute, and Masaaki Kumagai, a professor of engineering at Tohoku Gakuin University in Tagajo, Japan, eliminates the mechanical drive systems that each used on previous ballbots. Because of this extreme mechanical simplicity, SIMbot requires less routine maintenance and is less likely to suffer mechanical failures. The new motor can move the ball in any direction using only electronic controls. These movements keep SIMbot's body balanced atop the ball.

Is Artificial Intelligence a Threat to Humanity?

#artificialintelligence

Should we be worried about the future of artificial intelligence? Some of the biggest names in science and technology have recently made headlines by suggesting that yes, we should. Microsoft founder Bill Gates has joined this school of thought, saying he is "in the camp that is concerned about super intelligence," and predicting that in mere decades, AI could become "strong enough to be a concern." Gates' comments echo what several other forward thinkers have said about this topic. Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX, Telsa Motors, SolarCity, and PayPal has called AI our "biggest existential threat."

Rise of the Humans: Augmenting Human Capabilities with Artificial Intelligence - IT Peer Network

#artificialintelligence

When I attend customer engagement and industry events, I inevitably field lots of questions that are close to the heart of a data scientist. Many executives are confused by the concepts of machine learning, deep learning, memory-based learning, and artificial intelligence. They wonder about the differences in these technologies, how everything fits together, and what they need to pay attention to. They wonder whether they need all of it or just some of it, and what they need to do to get started. And, yes, I hear people ask whether the ultimate goal is to replace humans with computers.

Artificial Intelligence has key role in Internet of Things - The Sunday Business Post

#artificialintelligence

Finding a way to adequately serve firms in the internet of things (IoT) space is the next area customer relationship management (CRM) providers need to target, according to electronics giant Schneider Electric. "We want to make the IT and IoT world converge with a lot of customer context. If you have a lot of data generated without context, you cannot sell to a customer in a great way. It's about connecting the dots so you better know the usage of buildings and devices," Christophe Blassiau, senior vice president for customer experience and CRM at Schneider told the Sunday Business Post. Blassiau made the comments at Dreamforce, Salesforce's annual gathering in San Francisco which is attended by 170,000 people.

"Google Assistant" Is Not a Good Name for Google's Assistant

#artificialintelligence

"Google" is a great name. Twenty years ago it was a playful, made-up word (a riff on "googol," which is the number 1 followed by 100 zeros). But it's time to let Google go. We've already witnessed the unfortunately named Google Play Music All Access, Google Videos, and Google, among many others. The latest victim of this stubborn branding strategy is the company's digital assistant.

Andrew Arruda of ROSS Intelligence: "We Want to Assist Every Lawyer in the World"

#artificialintelligence

After graduating with a law degree from the University of Saskatchewan, Andrew identified a problem amid the legal hierarchy – by experiencing it first-hand. "I worked at a small law firm to pay my way through university and law school. When I started out I did a lot of the grunt work that senior lawyers don't do. Legal research takes about 30% of a lawyer's time. Currently legal research works by inputting keywords to search a massive databases of cases – you type in a query and get thousands of results, which a lawyer has to trawl through to pick out key meanings. I was doing that, and I can tell you that it's a mess and takes a long time".

Marketo, HubSpot and Oracle Just Got Lapped by Artificial Intelligence

#artificialintelligence

Platforms such as these reveal insights from large amounts of unstructured data. That's how Facebook is able to recognize faces in photographs with nearly 98% accuracy. It's this technology that powers much of the managed services technology behind programmatic native advertising. As a matter of fact, Paul Roetzer of PR 20/20 gave a whole presentation on the topic at Content Marketing World. IBM's Watson project has earned just as much media attention as the iPhone 7 announcement – with good reason, too.
