The Samsung Galaxy S8 has an official launch date

The Independent - Tech

Samsung has revealed that its next flagship smartphone will launch on 29 March. The Galaxy S8 had been expected to make its first official appearance at MWC 2017, but the company decided to delay it because of the fallout surrounding the disastrous Galaxy Note 7. The Galaxy S8 is heavily rumoured to be an 5.8-inch handset, though a 6.2-inch S8 is also likely to launch alongside it. Both phones will allegedly feature an "infinity display", said to cover 83% of their front panel, enabling Samsung to keep them relatively compact. They'll also come with an iris-scanner, a 12-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel selfie camera, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of onboard storage. The S8 and S8 are also expected to be IP68 dust- and water-resistant and support wireless charging, as well as feature a new AI virtual assistant called Bixby capable of speaking up to eight different languages.

USATODAY - Tech Top Stories

With a connection this LG G6 can take advantage of the Google Assistant (Photo: Edward C. Baig) BARCELONA--The virtual Google Assistant is going to spread its voice beyond Google's own Pixel devices. Google announced that starting this week, it will roll out a software upgrade that brings the Assistant to all Android phones running Android 7.0 Nougat and Android 6.0 Marshmallow with Google Play Services. That's the software Google uses to update Google apps and services on Android devices. Google says the rollout will come first to English users in the U.S., followed by English users in Australia, Canada, India and the United Kingdom, as well as German speakers in Germany. More languages will be added over the course of the year.

Motorola and Amazon will bake Alexa into Moto Mods and phones

Engadget

According to Amazon and Motorola representatives here at Mobile World Congress, the two companies have teamed up to explore ways to bring Amazon's voice-controlled assistant onto Motorola hardware. Amazon's Jon Kirk took the stage to run through a a very short concept video in which a Moto phone was connected to a Harman Kardon-made speaker Mod that doubled as an Amazon Echo. That's not all, either: we're also told that Alexa support will be baked into "most" Motorola devices going forward, and that shift is expected to being later this year. Motorola isn't first to make this sort of announcement -- Huawei did the same back at CES -- but it's pretty clear Alexa is quickly becoming the voice assistant of choice for device makers who would rather avoid the soon-to-be-ubiquitous Google Assistant. The presentation was light on the really juicy Alexa details, but we wonder if the 5th-generation Moto G Plus -- which was also officially unveiled today -- will be the first Moto device to get the Amazon treatment.

Huawei P10 preview: A hands-on look at the 'dazzling' and risky new iPhone rival

The Independent - Tech

MWC 2017 kicked off with the launch of the LG G6, and Huawei has followed its rival with a new flagship of its own: the Huawei P10. The Chinese firm has become a genuine force in the smartphone industry, with the Huawei Mate 9 easily its best release yet, boasting outstanding battery life, an excellent screen and a number of intelligent software tweaks. Does the P10 represent another step in the right direction? In terms of design, we have no complaints. The'dazzling' colours options are particularly attractive, thanks to something Huawei calls the'hyper diamond cut'.

LG officially unveils the G6, and it's everything we thought it would be

PCWorld

If you didn't know that LG was releasing its G6 flagship smartphone at Mobile World Congress, you must have not had Internet service for most of 2017. LG itself has been releasing bits of information about its newest smartphone for weeks, and a steady stream of leaks and spy shots have conspired to elucidate pretty much every aspect of the phone thus far. Well, now the G6 is finally here, and with an extra-tall display and Google Assistant built into the OS, it's every bit the flagship it was promised to be. Even without any surprises--and even with a soon-to-be-outdated processor--the G6 is a beast that puts LG back on the Android map. Why this matters: LG needs a hit.

Samsung Galaxy S8, S8 Plus Specs Reportedly Leaked, Bixby Not Mentioned

International Business Times

The Samsung Galaxy S8, one of the most anticipated devices of 2017, created a buzz that's getting louder as we inch closer to its expected launch in April. The most recent leaks regarding the device are a screenshot of its specs and one of its sign-up pages. On Thursday, TechnoBuffalo claimed it had a leaked screenshot listing specs of both the devices, while on Friday blogger Evan Blass posted a screenshot of a sign-up program for "the Next Galaxy." Blass' tweet showed a device having top and bottom bezels, but none on the side, which concurs with earlier reports of the device having an edge-to-edge display. Apart from this, the tweet did not reveal much. According to the screenshots by TechnoBuffalo, both devices are expected to come with Quad HD displays.

iOS 11: 5 Expected Features Of Apple's Upcoming OS Update including Improved Siri, 3D Touch Integration And Kinect Functionality

International Business Times

Just like it does every year, Apple is expected to launch its next major iOS update at its World Wide Developers Conference event, which will be held in San Jose in June. According to previous rumors, the device will have an edge-to-edge display, a front camera with depth measurement functionality and support wireless charging. This milestone could be another reason that Apple could put out a new update, bringing major changes to the existing version of the operating system. Artificial Intelligence enabled Siri: Artificial intelligence (AI) enabled voice assistants seem to be the new fad in the smartphone industry. While Google's Assistant and Amazon's Alexa have made their way not just to smartphones, but even to smart devices, HTC has come out with its own Sense Companion and Samsung is developing Bixby.

Integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Mobile Apps

#artificialintelligence

Artificial Intelligence (AI) reminds us of many Hollywood movies, like The Terminator, The Matrix etc, in which machines surpass ability and smartness of human beings to perform incredible acts. With significant advancement in technology, it is now actually possible to empower a machine with AI by using a few programming techniques and database management system. But AI is no restricted to machines robotics only, and is now seen as the next frontier of mobile devices too. Cortana, Siri and Google Now have already shown us how AI can make a difference in digital world to make human lives better. They behave as personal assistants to advise and suggest a user, like reminding birthdays of loved ones, an important meeting, a major event and many more.

What Is 5G, and When Do I Get It?

WIRED

Look at the top corner of your phone screen. Right now, it probably reads 4G LTE, and you're probably fine with that. But soon--and we're talking years, not months--your phone will say 5G there instead. The mobile industry is buzzing about this next generation of high-speed wireless service, and you can expect the chatter to get even louder at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week. The carriers have to upgrade their massive infrastructures, for one.

Samsung Galaxy S8 specs leak confirms monstrous 6.2-inch screen and eye-scanning tech

The Independent - Tech

The launch of the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 is still weeks away, but many of the handsets' details have already been revealed in a series of leaks. Samsung will almost certainly not unveil its new pair of flagships at Mobile World Congress this weekend, and is instead rumoured to be planning a New York event towards the end of March, ahead of an April release. The latest Samsung leak comes from Twitter user @evleaks, who has got his hands on a legitimate-looking specs list for the larger of the two upcoming smartphones. Assuming it is the real deal, the list confirms that the Galaxy S8 will feature an enormous 6.2-inch screen, with a Quad HD resolution. For comparison, the ill-fated Note 7 – Samsung's flagship large-screened handset before it was recalled and discontinued – used a 5.7-inch display, and last year's S7 and S7 Edge used a 5.1-inch screen and 5.5-inch screen, respectively.
