A future for mobile operators: The keys to successful reinvention McKinsey & Company
What can companies do to alleviate the squeeze on margins and create more value? Major advances in data analytics, artificial intelligence, network equipment, and other technologies have rewritten the industry's winning formula. With the newest software and hardware, along with digital-age management practices, mobile operators can achieve breakthrough cost savings and capital intensity while maintaining or even increasing their scale. To capitalize on these opportunities, executives must take bold action to transform their businesses. Managing networks with next-generation technologies can cut the capital-spending and operating expenses of wireless operators.
Google I/O: Google Home will now let you make voice calls, catching up to Alexa
USA TODAY's Jefferson Graham says Google Home is improved but is still a work in progress with some gaping holes. LOS ANGELES -- Google announced new features for its Google Home personal assistant product Wednesday, with one key catch-up to rival Amazon -- free phone calls to the United States and Canada mobile and landline phones. Google Home, which is a distant No. 2 in the personal digital assistant speaker market to Amazon's Echo speaker line, announced many new tools for the Home that tap into the Google Assistant. The assistant is Google's answer to Apple's Siri, Microsoft's Cortana and Samsung's Bixby and looks to use voice computing for both search and daily tasks. In Google's vision of the utopian world, we would use Google Home to answer basic search questions.

Savari works to bring 5G to connected cars
In these early days of smart cities and connected cars, Savari has emerged as a V2X (that's vehicle-to-everything) innovator. Now it's joined the 5G Automotive Association to bring cellular communications to connected cars. This technology doesn't merely provide faster cell service on the morning commute. Cellular-V2X (C-V2X) is a communications system for connected cars to share data with each other and with the surrounding infrastructure -- no humans required. With 5G, cars can send and receive messages 10 times per second.
Software launches focus on AI, analytics, 5G for operators - RCR Wireless News
A number of product launches this week aim to help operators navigate an increasingly software-centric world by better leveraging their networks and moving toward becoming digital businesses. At TM Forum, Netcracker made its most recent platform release with the launch of Netcracker 12. The new platform expands internet of things support as well as integrated artificial intelligence capabilities in Netcracker's analytics, incorporates virtualization support in operations management and is generally focused on helping operators speed service deployment and deepen analytics-based insights across customer interactions as well as their own internal ecosystems. Ari Banerjee, Netcracker's VP of strategy, said that long development cycles and limitations of physical services have inhibited operators' ability to compete with over-the-top providers. "The service offering base needs to be broadened," he added, saying that Netcracker 12 is focused on "helping them move toward becoming digital service providers."

Distributed Adaptive Learning of Graph Signals
Di Lorenzo, P., Banelli, P., Barbarossa, S., Sardellitti, S.
Over the last few years, there was a surge of interest in the development of processing tools for the analysis of signals defined over a graph, or graph signals for short, in view of the many potential applications spanning from sensor networks, social media, vehicular networks, big data or biological networks [1]-[3]. Graph signal processing (GSP) considers signals defined over a discrete domain having a very general structure, represented by a graph, and subsumes classical discrete-time signal processing as a very simple case. Several processing methods for signals defined over a graph were proposed in [2], [4]-[6], and one of the most interesting aspects is that these analysis tools come to depend on the graph topology. A fundamental role in GSP is of course played by spectral analysis, which passes through the definition of the Graph Fourier Transform (GFT). Two main approaches for GFT have been proposed in the literature, based on the projection of the signal onto the eigenvectors of either the graph Laplacian, see, e.g., [1], [7], [8], or of the adjacency matrix, see, e.g.
