Arguing A.I.: The Battle for Twenty-first-Century Science: Sam Williams: 9780812991802: Amazon.com: Books

@machinelearnbot

Is research and thinking on artificial intelligence stuck in a local minimum? Those in the field have attested to major advances in the last decade, but are these advances merely a renaming of approaches that were taken decades ago? This book does not address these questions as its major goal, but instead attempts to give a broad overview of how A.I. got started and where it is now, and where it might be going. The reader is lead to ask the questions above though after reading the book, for the author seems to ask them implicitly. Its validity as a science are questioned, and the future of A.I. is addressed in detail.

The Joy of Association

We have all had the experience. You are doing some on-line shopping. You drop a few items into your shopping cart and the website gets'helpful.' Across the bottom of the screen you see a collection of other items and you are told that they might be of interest to you. And the odd thing is, they mostly are kind of interesting.

Amazon.com: Introducing Data Science: Big Data, Machine Learning, and more, using Python tools (9781633430037): Davy Cielen, Arno Meysman, Mohamed Ali: Books

@machinelearnbot

If I could have given 6 stars, I would have. This book would provide you with a very well rounded approach to Data Science and by that I mean truly would give you a ride though all the aspects of this field versus showing you some regression algorithm using python and call it Data Science. Book has it all - not only it leverages probably the most favorite language (python) for its examples, it also goes in details in supporting tools and eco systems. For examples, Spark - Why create something when Spark is already here and we can just use it in our work. It covered NoSQL technologies to give readers enough information to get started and weighted pros and cons of each.

How artificial intelligence is changing online retail forever

#artificialintelligence

Babak Hodjat is a co-founder and the chief scientist of Sentient. Artificial intelligence is all around us, from searching on Google to what news you see on social media to using Siri. And with the momentum around AI growing every day, it's not surprising that some of the most innovative retail sites have recently been experimenting with the use of AI, as well. Businesses that ignore this growing trend will find themselves playing catch-up for years. The big question is how exactly is this new technology going to change retail. E-commerce is a space with a lot of potential, in part because it's such a data-rich industry, and, there's some momentum around AI gathering already.

Using Algorithmic Retailing to Drive Competitive Advantage - Robert Hetu

#artificialintelligence

New Gartner research explores how retailers gain competitive advantage through the application of algorithms that reduce costs and grow top-line revenue. CIOs can use this research to identify use cases that will improve business performance in the unified commerce retail marketplace. Gartner describes algorithmic business as the "enablement of business value through the action of algorithms on data" and regards algorithms themselves as a way to encapsulate and produce intellectual property, knowledge and insight in a reusable form. Algorithms are a set of rules for solving a problem in a finite number of steps, as for finding the greatest common divisor. New technologies create opportunities to advance algorithms, incorporating many more data inputs and steps and even decision-making capability.

How Internet of Things Is Disrupting Retail Industry - CXOtoday.com

#artificialintelligence

Internet of Things (IoT) is creating a tectonic shift in the way brands react to consumers and how buyers interact with each other and seek out and find sources of information that assist their buying decisions. A spate of recent events are re-shaping the way consumers communicate with each others, with the brand, conduct research and shop for goods and services. New devices, systems, microprocessors, data hubs, networks, analytics and software demonstrating artificial intelligence are increasingly making their presence felt in the retail markets. "IoT data harvested from smartphones, wearables, sensors and other devices would soon provide significant insights and opportunities for both the customer as well as the brand. The use of predictive selling powered by artificial intelligence would enable retailers to deliver superior buying experience to customers, resulting in lifelong brand loyalty, says Suhale Kapoor, Co-Founder and Executive Vice-President of Absolutedata Analytics.
