Data Science with Java: Practical Methods for Scientists and Engineers 1, PhD Michael R. Brzustowicz, eBook - Amazon.com

@machinelearnbot

This book is for scientists and engineers already familiar with the concepts of application development who want to jump headfirst into data science. The topics covered here will walk you through the data science pipeline, explaining mathematical theory and giving code examples along the way. This book is the perfect jumping-off point into much deeper waters. I wrote this book to start a movement. As data science skyrockets to stardom, fueled by R and Python, very few practitioners venture into the world of Java.

The Grocery Store Of The Future Is Mobile, Self-Driving, And Run By AI

#artificialintelligence

In Shanghai, a prototype of a new 24-hour convenience store has no staff, no registers, and the whole thing is on wheels, designed to eventually drive itself to a warehouse to restock, or to a customer to make a delivery. The startup behind it believes that it's the model for the grocery store of the futureโ€“and because it's both mobile and far cheaper to build and operate than a typical store, it could also help bring better access to groceries to food deserts and rural areas. In a dense urban neighborhood with high rents, the low-cost system could make it possible for a group of neighbors to launch their own local grocery. "The biggest costs to have a store are the place itself to rent in a central cityโ€“it's ultra-expensiveโ€“and then staff is really expensive, and we're removing both of these at the same time," says Tomas Mazetti, one of the founders of Wheelys, the Sweden-based startup that is developing the store along with China's Hefei University and Himalayafy, an offshoot of Wheelys focused on the technology inside the store. Wheelys already makes small mobile coffee carts designed to help young entrepreneurs compete with chains like Starbucks when they don't have the funds to rent space for a standard cafe.

Startup Lightning Talks from the AWS Summit San Francisco

#artificialintelligence

This past April, the AWS Summit in San Francisco featured 11 lightning talks given by AWS startup customers and members of the AWS startup business development team. The talks covered topics ranging from serverless and AI to VC fundraising and cybersecurity. Interested in learning more about other startups on AWS? This self-driving grocery store has no employees

Engadget

The idea of a fully automated grocery store with no human employees might sound strange (or very appealing, depending on just how much you hate interacting with people), and now, Shanghai residents can visit one for themselves. The Swedish company Wheelys is testing a mobile grocery store with no staff -- and it can drive itself. In order to shop at Moby, you first have to download an app to your phone. That's what gets you through the door, which is otherwise kept locked. You then walk through the store -- which is very small, fitting a maximum of four people at once -- and place your purchases into a smart basket.

Five Situations Where You Should Use a Chatbot โ€“ Chatbots Magazine

#artificialintelligence

Following on from my interview with Avi Ben Ezra about AI and the future of Chatbots, I took the opportunity to ask Henri Ben Ezra about the more practical side of the use of chatbots, with a focus on where we are now. Henri is the CEO of Snatchbot, a company that facilitates you in creating your own chatbot for free. Firstly, chatbots have become a cost-effective way for businesses to connect with prospective customers. If you are a business and have online sales, you really must have a chatbot. Conversational commerce is going to completely automate the online sales process.

45% Of Retailers Plan To Add AI To Enhance Customer Service

#artificialintelligence

Retailers appear to be warming to artificial intelligence and virtual reality. There's a coming convergence of AI with traditional customer service, which is on track to completely change the shopping experience, based on a new study. Almost half (45%) of retailers plan to utilize artificial intelligence for customer service within three years, according to the BRP 2017 Customer Experience, Unified Commerce Benchmark survey of 500 executives at retailers in North America, with a focus on specialty retail. Virtual reality is not far behind, with more than a third (34%) of retailers planning to implement it within the next three years, and augmented reality is right behind that, at 33%. Already, 14% of retailers say they have implemented both AI (digital assistants, chatbots, etc.) and augmented reality and 8% have implemented virtual reality.

First Amazon announced plans to fully automate its new brick and mortar store with robots. Then we learned that Foxconn plans to automate 30 percent of its factory workforce by 2018. And recently, Wendy's announced plans to add automated kiosks at more than 1,000 stores. One thing is clear -- robots are changing the way we live and work. And this is just the beginning.

Instead of the usual academic theory, this ebook is packed full of practical techniques that are used in actual games. It also provides a fundamental design for any game AI breaking it down into 3 areas: Movement Decision Making Tactical / Strategic Planning It then goes through each of these and thoroughly discusses incrementally more advanced ideas and techniques. Then there are sections for general infrastructure. Things like blackboards, messaging and event management that are critical to getting the AI working. And a great chapter on World Interfacing which turns out to be one of the most critical and challenging areas of game AI design.

For The Battered Retail Industry, Machine Learning Has To Be About Sales - ARC

#artificialintelligence

More and more, the forecasters of technology and the global economy are saying that the road to economic empowerment will be led by machine learning and artificial intelligence. Accenture and Frontier Economics predict artificial intelligence will double the economic growth of the world's 12 biggest economies by 2025. In a different report, Accenture forecasts the unlocking of $2.95 trillion in economic value by retailers and consumer goods companies over the next decade by adopting digital solutions and adapted business models. If it can stay afloat long enough to make the evolution a reality. Almost every week we hear about new layoffs, massive store closing and weak earnings.

How AI is improving customer experience and loyalty in retail

#artificialintelligence

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) is expanding across all industries. Forrester predicts that this year alone there will be a 300% increase in investment in artificial intelligence. Companies worldwide are starting to use the power of AI to enhance their capabilities and deliver improved experiences to customers. Retail is an industry where AI use is relatively new, but it is gaining speed due to customer interest. JWT Intelligence research shows that 62% of millennials in the UK say they would appreciate a brand or retailer using AI technology to show more interesting products.
