Top 10 AI Companies Redefining the World of Retail

#artificialintelligence

Nowadays, retail industry is in a constant state of transformation. The sector highly depends on data from its own operations and customer analysis as a whole to make crucial decisions. The retailers are attempting to survive the fierce competition on the market and fast-changing customer shopping habits using technology. Artificial intelligence in retail industry comes with several benefits such as predictive merchandising, programmatic advertising, market forecasting, in-store visual monitoring & surveillance, and location-based marketing. The implementation of technology has impacted constant changes in CRM and sales, manufacturing, logistics and customer service.

Amazon UK's first checkout-free Fresh grocery store opens in London

Engadget

Amazon has opened its first checkout-free store outside of the US, a Fresh store powered by the "Just Walk Out" tech used in US Go stores. The shop, located in the West London borough of Ealing, offers Brits the same automated shopping experience that has been available to the US public since 2018. Instead of paying at manned or self-service checkouts, AI-powered sensors track the items you pluck from shelves and put in your basket and charges are automatically applied to your card at exit via the Amazon Go app. "Our Amazon Fresh store in Ealing is the size of your typical convenience food store, which is roughly 2,500 square feet in the front of house," Amazon wrote in a FAQ. "We're excited to bring this concept to the UK and look forward to opening additional stores in the Greater London area."

MarqVision enables real-time counterfeit goods detection with technology.

#artificialintelligence

When you found an excellent luxury product at an affordable price from an eCommerce platform, what makes you hesitate? Most of the customers hesitate if the product is a fraud or counterfeit one. "The counterfeit market has been on the rise for quite some time and, according to a Forbes study, sales from counterfeit and pirated goods total around $1.7 trillion every year -- more than drugs and human trafficking." MarqVision, A South Korean startup based in Boston and Seoul, was accepted by Y Combinator as YC 21 this January. The company provides an AI-powered platform to protect brands from counterfeits and an AI-enhanced video verification system for online retailers.

Analyzing open-source ML pipeline models in real time using Amazon SageMaker Debugger

Open-source workflow managers are popular because they make it easy to orchestrate machine learning (ML) jobs for productions. Taking models into productions following a GitOps pattern is best managed by a container-friendly workflow manager, also known as MLOps. Kubeflow Pipelines (KFP) is one of the Kubernetes-based workflow managers used today. However, it doesn't provide all the functionality you need for a best-in-class data science and ML engineer experience. A common issue when developing ML models is having access to the tensor-level metadata of how the job is performing.

6 Benefits of Robotic Process Automation in E-Commerce

Mostly warehouse management of such giants remains an issue in daily operations. Amazon, as of now has more than 15,000 robots active for their warehouse management. The use of mobile robots for order fulfillment is a new trend to meets the logistic expectations of customers. Logistic companies like XPO are addressing warehouse issues through robotics. The operational efficiency of any organization can be achieved by opting for RPA.

Fast Adaptation with Linearized Neural Networks

arXiv.org Machine Learning

The inductive biases of trained neural networks are difficult to understand and, consequently, to adapt to new settings. We study the inductive biases of linearizations of neural networks, which we show to be surprisingly good summaries of the full network functions. Inspired by this finding, we propose a technique for embedding these inductive biases into Gaussian processes through a kernel designed from the Jacobian of the network. In this setting, domain adaptation takes the form of interpretable posterior inference, with accompanying uncertainty estimation. This inference is analytic and free of local optima issues found in standard techniques such as fine-tuning neural network weights to a new task. We develop significant computational speed-ups based on matrix multiplies, including a novel implementation for scalable Fisher vector products. Our experiments on both image classification and regression demonstrate the promise and convenience of this framework for transfer learning, compared to neural network fine-tuning. How Does AI in Retail Marketing and eCommerce Work?

#artificialintelligence

AI was just a philosophical concept until the late 20th century when researchers introduced methodologies to make it real. AI has been around in retail marketing, mostly to reduce the tedious work of remembering all the finances. Traditional shops used to maintain a list of loyal customers too. Shops were on their way to going digital long before the pandemic, but the sudden shift to online buying and increased digital transactions caught many by surprise. The physical retail stores experienced most of the trauma. The pandemic disrupted the supply chains from all over the world.

Artificial Intelligence: Global scenario versus Indian landscape

#artificialintelligence

The retail industry has been one of worst-hit industries by the global pandemic and after an initial knee-jerk pause during the lockdowns, we see a sudden spike in retail brands (across categories of products) globally wanting to adopt and embrace digital transformation initiatives. The age-old model of customer service via call-centre's has been disrupted permanently by Covid-19 and moving to AI solutions that can help retail businesses manage both exponential rise in call volumes while maintaining very high service level quality is the new emerging opportunity. It is, therefore, not a surprise that the conversational AI market alone is expected to grow at 32 percent CAGR to $9.4 billion by 2024 according to market research company markets & markets.

Programming Machine Learning: From Coding to Deep Learning: Perrotta, Paolo: 9781680506600: Amazon.com: Books

#artificialintelligence

There are many ways to implement a supervised learning system. The most popular of those is the neural network-- a brilliant algorithm that was loosely inspired by the connections of neurons in our own brains. Part II of this book is dedicated to neural networks. We'll grow the program from Part I into a full-fledged neural network. We'll have to overcome a few challenges along the way, but the payoff will be worth it: the final neural network will be way more powerful than the fledgling program we'll start off with.

IoT, edge computing and AI projects pay off for asset-based enterprises

Bill Holmes, facilities manager at the Corona, Calif., plant that produces the iconic Fender Stratocaster and Telecaster guitars, remembers all too well walking the factory floor with a crude handheld vibration analyzer and then plugging the device into a computer to get readings on the condition of his equipment. While all of the woodworking was done by hand when Leo Fender founded Fender Musical Instruments Corp. 75 years ago, today the guitar necks and bodies are produced with computer-controller woodworking routers, then handed off to the craftsmen who build the final product. Holmes says he is always looking for the latest technological advances to solve problems (he uses robotics to help paint the guitars), and there's no problem more vexing than equipment breakdowns. Preventive maintenance, where machines get attention on a predetermined schedule, is insufficient, he says. "Ninety percent of breakdowns are instant failures that shut down processes. If you can spot a failure before it happens, you're not shutting down production and the maintenance team isn't running around putting out fires."
