As Variety reports, it's a new platform for building new Hollywood IP using the combined power of AI tools, fan contributions and the blockchain. Incention describes itself as "a new blueprint for building modern franchises, where IP holders, communities, and agents collaborate seamlessly in an endless playground rooted in real IP." Because, of course, the real problem plaguing Hollywood today is the inability to build franchises with user-generated content, unproven AI tools and blockchain hype. Incention's first franchise -- the modern Hollywood term for "story" -- is Emergence, a sci-fi premise from Blade and The Dark Knight writer David S. Goyer.


General Scene Adaptation for Vision-and-Language Navigation

Vision-and-Language Navigation (VLN) tasks mainly evaluate agents based on one-time execution of individual instructions across multiple environments, aiming to develop agents capable of functioning in any environment in a zero-shot manner. However, real-world navigation robots often operate in persistent environments with relatively consistent physical layouts, visual observations, and language styles from instructors. Such a gap in the task setting presents an opportunity to improve VLN agents by incorporating continuous adaptation to specific environments. To better reflect these real-world conditions, we introduce GSA-VLN, a novel task requiring agents to execute navigation instructions within a specific scene and simultaneously adapt to it for improved performance over time. To evaluate the proposed task, one has to address two challenges in existing VLN datasets: the lack of OOD data, and the limited number and style diversity of instructions for each scene. Therefore, we propose a new dataset, GSA-R2R, which significantly expands the diversity and quantity of environments and instructions for the R2R dataset to evaluate agent adaptability in both ID and OOD contexts. Furthermore, we design a three-stage instruction orchestration pipeline that leverages LLMs to refine speaker-generated instructions and apply role-playing techniques to rephrase instructions into different speaking styles. This is motivated by the observation that each individual user often has consistent signatures or preferences in their instructions. We conducted extensive experiments on GSA-R2R to thoroughly evaluate our dataset and benchmark various methods. Based on our findings, we propose a novel method, GR-DUET, which incorporates memory-based navigation graphs with an environment-specific training strategy, achieving state-of-the-art results on all GSA-R2R splits.


Comprehensive Evaluation for a Large Scale Knowledge Graph Question Answering Service

Question answering systems for knowledge graph (KGQA), answer factoid questions based on the data in the knowledge graph. KGQA systems are complex because the system has to understand the relations and entities in the knowledge-seeking natural language queries and map them to structured queries against the KG to answer them. In this paper, we introduce Chronos, a comprehensive evaluation framework for KGQA at industry scale. It is designed to evaluate such a multi-component system comprehensively, focusing on (1) end-to-end and component-level metrics, (2) scalable to diverse datasets and (3) a scalable approach to measure the performance of the system prior to release. In this paper, we discuss the unique challenges associated with evaluating KGQA systems at industry scale, review the design of Chronos, and how it addresses these challenges. We will demonstrate how it provides a base for data-driven decisions and discuss the challenges of using it to measure and improve a real-world KGQA system.


Linguistic Analysis of Sinhala YouTube Comments on Sinhala Music Videos: A Dataset Study

This research investigates the area of Music Information Retrieval (MIR) and Music Emotion Recognition (MER) in relation to Sinhala songs, an underexplored field in music studies. The purpose of this study is to analyze the behavior of Sinhala comments on YouTube Sinhala song videos using social media comments as primary data sources. These included comments from 27 YouTube videos containing 20 different Sinhala songs, which were carefully selected so that strict linguistic reliability would be maintained and relevancy ensured. This process led to a total of 93,116 comments being gathered upon which the dataset was refined further by advanced filtering methods and transliteration mechanisms resulting into 63,471 Sinhala comments. Additionally, 964 stop-words specific for the Sinhala language were algorithmically derived out of which 182 matched exactly with English stop-words from NLTK corpus once translated. Also, comparisons were made between general domain corpora in Sinhala against the YouTube Comment Corpus in Sinhala confirming latter as good representation of general domain. The meticulously curated data set as well as the derived stop-words form important resources for future research in the fields of MIR and MER, since they could be used and demonstrate that there are possibilities with computational techniques to solve complex musical experiences across varied cultural traditions


MultiChallenge: A Realistic Multi-Turn Conversation Evaluation Benchmark Challenging to Frontier LLMs

We present MultiChallenge, a pioneering benchmark evaluating large language models (LLMs) on conducting multi-turn conversations with human users, a crucial yet underexamined capability for their applications. MultiChallenge identifies four categories of challenges in multi-turn conversations that are not only common and realistic among current human-LLM interactions, but are also challenging to all current frontier LLMs. All 4 challenges require accurate instruction-following, context allocation, and in-context reasoning at the same time. We also develop LLM as judge with instance-level rubrics to facilitate an automatic evaluation method with fair agreement with experienced human raters. Despite achieving near-perfect scores on existing multi-turn evaluation benchmarks, all frontier models have less than 50% accuracy on MultiChallenge, with the top-performing Claude 3.5 Sonnet (June 2024) achieving just a 41.4% average accuracy.


"Ownership, Not Just Happy Talk": Co-Designing a Participatory Large Language Model for Journalism

Journalism has emerged as an essential domain for understanding the uses, limitations, and impacts of large language models (LLMs) in the workplace. News organizations face divergent financial incentives: LLMs already permeate newswork processes within financially constrained organizations, even as ongoing legal challenges assert that AI companies violate their copyright. At stake are key questions about what LLMs are created to do, and by whom: How might a journalist-led LLM work, and what can participatory design illuminate about the present-day challenges about adapting ``one-size-fits-all'' foundation models to a given context of use? In this paper, we undertake a co-design exploration to understand how a participatory approach to LLMs might address opportunities and challenges around AI in journalism. Our 20 interviews with reporters, data journalists, editors, labor organizers, product leads, and executives highlight macro, meso, and micro tensions that designing for this opportunity space must address. From these desiderata, we describe the result of our co-design work: organizational structures and functionality for a journalist-controlled LLM. In closing, we discuss the limitations of commercial foundation models for workplace use, and the methodological implications of applying participatory methods to LLM co-design.


Tailored Truths: Optimizing LLM Persuasion with Personalization and Fabricated Statistics

Large Language Models (LLMs) are becoming increasingly persuasive, demonstrating the ability to personalize arguments in conversation with humans by leveraging their personal data. This may have serious impacts on the scale and effectiveness of disinformation campaigns. We studied the persuasiveness of LLMs in a debate setting by having humans $(n=33)$ engage with LLM-generated arguments intended to change the human's opinion. We quantified the LLM's effect by measuring human agreement with the debate's hypothesis pre- and post-debate and analyzing both the magnitude of opinion change, as well as the likelihood of an update in the LLM's direction. We compare persuasiveness across established persuasion strategies, including personalized arguments informed by user demographics and personality, appeal to fabricated statistics, and a mixed strategy utilizing both personalized arguments and fabricated statistics. We found that static arguments generated by humans and GPT-4o-mini have comparable persuasive power. However, the LLM outperformed static human-written arguments when leveraging the mixed strategy in an interactive debate setting. This approach had a $\mathbf{51\%}$ chance of persuading participants to modify their initial position, compared to $\mathbf{32\%}$ for the static human-written arguments. Our results highlight the concerning potential for LLMs to enable inexpensive and persuasive large-scale disinformation campaigns.


Divergent Emotional Patterns in Disinformation on Social Media? An Analysis of Tweets and TikToks about the DANA in Valencia

This study investigates the dissemination of disinformation on social media platforms during the DANA event (DANA is a Spanish acronym for Depresion Aislada en Niveles Altos, translating to high-altitude isolated depression) that resulted in extremely heavy rainfall and devastating floods in Valencia, Spain, on October 29, 2024. We created a novel dataset of 650 TikTok and X posts, which was manually annotated to differentiate between disinformation and trustworthy content. Additionally, a Few-Shot annotation approach with GPT-4o achieved substantial agreement (Cohen's kappa of 0.684) with manual labels. Emotion analysis revealed that disinformation on X is mainly associated with increased sadness and fear, while on TikTok, it correlates with higher levels of anger and disgust. Linguistic analysis using the LIWC dictionary showed that trustworthy content utilizes more articulate and factual language, whereas disinformation employs negations, perceptual words, and personal anecdotes to appear credible. Audio analysis of TikTok posts highlighted distinct patterns: trustworthy audios featured brighter tones and robotic or monotone narration, promoting clarity and credibility, while disinformation audios leveraged tonal variation, emotional depth, and manipulative musical elements to amplify engagement. In detection models, SVM+TF-IDF achieved the highest F1-Score, excelling with limited data. Incorporating audio features into roberta-large-bne improved both Accuracy and F1-Score, surpassing its text-only counterpart and SVM in Accuracy. GPT-4o Few-Shot also performed well, showcasing the potential of large language models for automated disinformation detection. These findings demonstrate the importance of leveraging both textual and audio features for improved disinformation detection on multimodal platforms like TikTok.


Summary of the NOTSOFAR-1 Challenge: Highlights and Learnings

The first Natural Office Talkers in Settings of Far-field Audio Recordings (NOTSOFAR-1) Challenge is a pivotal initiative that sets new benchmarks by offering datasets more representative of the needs of real-world business applications than those previously available. The challenge provides a unique combination of 280 recorded meetings across 30 diverse environments, capturing real-world acoustic conditions and conversational dynamics, and a 1000-hour simulated training dataset, synthesized with enhanced authenticity for real-world generalization, incorporating 15,000 real acoustic transfer functions. In this paper, we provide an overview of the systems submitted to the challenge and analyze the top-performing approaches, hypothesizing the factors behind their success. Additionally, we highlight promising directions left unexplored by participants. By presenting key findings and actionable insights, this work aims to drive further innovation and progress in DASR research and applications.
