How We Talk About Artificial Intelligence Must Change
Some AI proponents argue that Artificial Intelligence will usurp human intelligence or even make us obsolete. That kind of talk must stop, before we lose control of AI. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the leading Internet trends of 2016, particularly with large companies like Google and Facebook pouring resources into it. While there are many benefits to AI -- for example, Facebook using it to make our news feeds smarter -- the hype is getting hubristic. I'm particularly concerned about the language AI proponents are using.

Disney cancels 'Infinity' as it quits video games
This isn't the first time Disney has bailed on in-house games. In 2013, it both closed Epic Mickey developer Junction Point and the legendary LucasArts studio. The interactive group has regularly struggled since then, too, leading to Disney cutting 700 jobs in 2014. In the second quarter, the segment's operating income sank 8 percent year-over-year -- an outlier for a corporation that's riding high on the successes of Star Wars: The Force Awakens and endless Marvel superhero movies. The writing may have been on the wall when Disney dropped the Apple TV version of Infinity just weeks ago.
AP Insights The next tool for journalists: artificial intelligence
The news and information ecosystem is in the midst of change -- again. Mobile-first consumption is on the rise, smart homes are becoming mainstream and connected cars will soon take over the roads of major cities around the world. Smart devices will require "smart content." It's only a matter of time before artificial intelligence becomes the backbone of the media industry of the future. Today, most people find information via search or social.
Maika Monroe And Ed Skrein To Star In 'Tau'; David Goyer Producing And Bloom Selling โ Cannes
Maika Monroe and Ed Skrein have boarded Federico D' Alessandro's sci-fi thriller Tau, with Waypoint Entertainment financing under their first look deal with Addictive Pictures. David S. Goyer (Man of Steel) and Kevin Turen (The Birth of a Nation) will produce under their Phantom Four banner alongside Russell Ackerman and John Schoenfelder for Addictive Pictures. Bloom is handling international sales at Cannes with WME repping domestic rights. The story follows a street-smart grifter, Julia (Monroe), who is the latest victim kidnapped and held captive in a fatal experiment. The only thing standing in the way of her freedom is Tau, an advanced artificial intelligence developed by Alex (Skrein), her captor.
Finding Similar Music using Matrix Factorization
In a previous post I wrote about how to build a'People Who Like This Also Like ...' feature for displaying lists of similar musicians. My goal was to show how simple Information Retrieval techniques can do a good job calculating lists of related artists. For instance, using BM25 distance on The Beatles shows the most similar artists being John Lennon and Paul McCartney. One interesting technique I didn't cover was using Matrix Factorization methods to reduce the dimensionality of the data before calculating the related artists. This kind of analysis can generate matches that are impossible to find with the techniques in my original post.
Completely Self-Service Machine Learning and Data Matching
Troparรฉ has developed the ability for its clients to discover unbiased patterns, insights, and trends in their data; perform thorough analysis; and use this information to make accurate, micro-targeted predictions, all without having to write a single line of code. As a result, marketing and sales departments can attract, retain, and grow their most profitable customers and maximize campaign spending, without having to rely on IT. "Data has become the new life-line of modern day marketing. However, unless marketing departments have the tools to unify data and perform correct analysis on a large scale, simply having enormous amounts of data is useless without tremendous reliance on IT," said Greg Carpenter, CEO of Troparรฉ. The second platform addition, (fuzzy) data matching & appending, is developed as an extension to the industry's widely-acknowledged struggle of data integration. The solution allows customers to easily combine, match, and append their own data with second and/or third party data derived from disparate sources.
Bots and Brands: AI's Customer Relationships Depend on Trust - Wipro Digital
Artificial intelligence and thinking computers are a prominent plot device for Hollywood. Movies such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, Alien, and Terminator come to mind, as well as current day examples such as I, Robot, Ex Machina, and Transcendence. These pop culture examples underscore the fears and challenges we face as we attempt to program natural behavior and interact with intelligent technology. I think about this whenever I read the growing list of examples of how bots are becoming more pervasive, especially after seeing an article that proclaimed "the bots are taking over." In reality, bots do not carry such hyperbolic doomsday results.

Spotify claims launch of Apple Music has helped it grow
Nasa has announced that it has found evidence of flowing water on Mars. Scientists have long speculated that Recurring Slope Lineae -- or dark patches -- on Mars were made up of briny water but the new findings prove that those patches are caused by liquid water, which it has established by finding hydrated salts. Several hundred camped outside the London store in Covent Garden. The 6s will have new features like a vastly improved camera and a pressure-sensitive "3D Touch" display
