Primark shoppers warned about fake £100 vouchers scam circulating on Facebook
Primark shoppers have been warned to stay away from a fake £100 discount voucher circulating on Facebook this week. The Facebook post claims that Primark is giving away the coupons as part of the discount retailer's anniversary celebrations. It encourages social media users to click on a link and participate as instructed. However experts have warned that anyone who does so is likely to have their personal information stolen and their friends are likely to be spammed in the process. Hoax Slayers, a website which aims to debunk email and internet hoaxes, first reported the scam in January this year, but the voucher reappeared on Facebook this week.

The engagements or "flocking" in the context of a subject (topic, event etc.) can lead to building of temporal communities with local influence that is not obvious by the standalone influence of the individuals or without the context of the event. The subgraphs aka communities formed by applying community detection graph algorithms are termed as'Flocks'. Internet of @ThingsExpo, taking place June 6-8, 2017 at Javits Center, New York City, is co-located with 20th International @CloudExpo and will feature technical sessions from a rock star conference faculty and the leading industry players in the world.
This short sci-fi movie starring David Hasselhoff was written by an AI
First it was age-old board games and boring office jobs, but now it seems robots are gearing up to take over Hollywood. Following up the stunning success of its debut short movie from last year, Sunspring, the script-writing artificial intelligence Benjamin is back with yet another sci-fi flick. Directed by Oscar Sharp and starring Baywatch icon David Hasselhoff, It's No Game takes us to an alternate reality where, in midst of heated writer's strike in Hollywood, AI script writers have gradually began to replace human ones. TNW Conference won best European Event 2016 for our festival vibe. See what's in store for 2017.
Watch David Hasselhoff in an AI-scripted short film
Robots are slowly taking more and more jobs -- and soon, they'll come for the writers (gulp). But the video is something of a meta rabbit hole itself, as all of the Hoff's dialogue was written by an AI called Benjamin, which was built to scribe an experimental short film last year. To make Benjamin, Sharp and Goodwin took a neural network, fed it a bunch of science fiction films and dribbled in plot hooks from a writing contest. Then they had it create a script for their sci-fi tale Sunspring, which was released last year. The film, featuring Silicon Valley's Thomas Middleditch, is an enjoyably incoherent mess that somehow gets across its characters' emotional journeys.
Oh Great, Now Alexa Will Judge Your Outfits, Too
I was 16 years old and had just moved from Idaho to New York City for my junior year of high school. I was chubby and insecure and hoping no one would notice me. But as I sat on the subway heading downtown after the first day, a few girls in my new class sat opposite. The leader of their group looked me up and down and said, "You know, you'd probably feel more comfortable here if you had the right bag, and shoes." Each of them, I suddenly saw, wore the same flats and had the same purse slung over their shoulders.
Will Artificial Intelligence Change The World For the Better? Or Worse? Read our new policy paper
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a concept that has a long standing tradition in the realm of science-fiction, popularized by Hollywood movies and iconic writers such as Isaac Asimov. However, AI has also received increased attention in recent years following news of progress in the field and the prospect of new, tangible, innovation such as self-driving cars. The Internet has played an important role in these developments, particularly as the platform for AI enabled services – some with significant implications for the continued development of a trusted Internet. The Internet Society is pleased to release a policy paper on Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning to help navigate some of the opportunities and challenges the technology presents, and to support an informed debate by de-mystifying some of its fundamental concepts. A key aspect is understanding machine learning, a specific AI technique that has been driving the development of new algorithms to substitute or support human decision-making – some of which are already deployed online.
Cinema, AI, and Human Nature – Film School Rejects
Open any newspaper and you'll find a profusion of articles and op-eds debating the future of artificial intelligence. Elon Musk is terrified of it. The AI mania has even permeated the film world, which (the latest slew of "film is dead" articles warns us) will apparently not escape the automation boom. Of course, our public conversation about AI has long been tied to the cinema. As our own Sinead McCausland has pointed out, films have supplied the popular imagination with images and existential questions about AI since Fritz Lang's Metropolis.

Media's Data-Driven Future
"Today is the slowest rate of technological change you will ever experience in your lifetime," wrote Shelly Palmer in his e-book Data-Driven Thinking (Digital Living Press, 2016). As one of the world's premier voices on the accelerating pace of digital technology, he is increasingly preoccupied with helping companies and individuals prepare for the dramatic changes he sees coming, particularly in entertainment and media. Palmer started his career at age 12 as a musician, playing the clarinet, saxophone, and flute in the 1970s in venues around New York. He was also an early experimenter with analog and digital synthesizers. He holds patents for two major interactive television technologies, one of which -- a method for syncing broadcast TV with server-based text, known as enhanced television -- was adopted by Monday Night Football and Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? His background also includes writing the theme music for Spin City and Live with Regis and Kathie Lee, and conducting the London Symphony Orchestra. Currently, he is Fox 5 New York's on-air tech and digital media expert and the proprietor of a popular and prescient email newsletter that covers the impact of technology on media and daily life, with a special focus on smart cars and smart homes. For the past decade, as a venture capitalist and CEO of his own consulting firm and marketing agency, the Palmer Group, Palmer has focused his attention on the evolution of advertising, marketing, and related businesses, along with leading-edge technologies such as smart home systems and data analytics. We recently talked with Palmer in New York. Conscious of the intertwined trajectories of trends in technology and media, we sought to explore how artificial intelligence (AI) and the churn in business models could affect advertising, media, and related fields over the next few years.
Lifelike robot Sophia on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show
An eerily realistic robot with a sassy sense of humour pitted her wits against one of America's top TV personalities. Sophia took to the stage of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon to share a joke or two with the comedian. But audiences may be divided in their feelings about the robot, with some viewing Sophia as'attractive' while others may feel uncomfortable. Eerily realistic robot Sophia (right) has a sassy sense of humour and her wits against one of America's top TV personalities Jimmy Fallon (left), who seemed charmed by the android. Sophia is the creation of American robotics expert David Hanson, who believes that artificial lifeforms can foster better connections with people if they take on a human form.
