Explaining The Basics of Machine Learning, Algorithms and Applications

#artificialintelligence

"Data is abundant and cheap but knowledge is scarce and expensive." In last few years, the sources of data capturing have evolved overwhelmingly. No longer companies limit themselves to surveys, questionnaire and other traditional forms of data collection. Smartphones, online browsing activity, drones, cameras are the modern form of data collection devices. And, believe me, that data is enormous.

[R] Anyway to measure the importance of each neural network layer? โ€ข r/MachineLearning

@machinelearnbot

Given a neural network composed of N layers, usually some layers are more "important" than other layers (eg. Is there any theory that can be used to measure the effectiveness of each neural network layer?

AI Series - Part Two - Programming Emotions

#artificialintelligence

Well done in kickstarting Azure Cognitive Services Emotions API. Remember that Emotions API(Project Oxford) is still in "Preview Stage" so not all your images are meant to work (Tried like 10 happiness emotion images and only 1 got processed). Emotion analysis is essential for all industries. We live in a world where emotions are changed instantly so if we analyze and take precautions before bad things happen, we can avoid dramas or even deaths. There used to be emotion reading in police departments.

Top takeaways from Consumers Electronics Show

Tech developers began moving beyond artificial intelligence to "emotional intelligence" and empathy with robots that can recognize people and their feelings, and respond in a more human manner. Those on display included a ping pong-playing robot from Japan's Omron Automation which adapts its โ€ฆ

University of Michigan Hosts Video Game Music Conference

U.S. News

The conference runs Saturday and Sunday at the Ann Arbor school. It brings together professionals and scholars in fields including musicology, music theory, ethnomusicology, media studies, sound studies and composition to discuss music in video games.

We are the remote control of the future

USATODAY - Tech Top Stories

Jefferson Graham runs down the winners and losers of CES 2018. LAS VEGAS -- In our home, every time I try to talk to Alexa or Siri, my wife usually responds by saying, "What?" I can only imagine what life is going to be like in the coming years. We humans are going to have to find a new way to understand each other. Because now that CES 2018 is wrapped, no new one individual product stands out, but one big theme does--voice computing.

Artificial intelligence can 'evolve' to solve problems

#artificialintelligence

Many great ideas in artificial intelligence languish in textbooks for decades because we don't have the computational power to apply them. That's what happened with neural networks, a technique inspired by our brains' wiring that has recently succeeded in translating languages and driving cars.

Artificial intelligence dominated the Consumer Electronics Show

#artificialintelligence

WHEN the electronics industry meets in Las Vegas at CES, its main trade show, buzzwords abound. But rarely has one been as pervasive as this week. "Artificial intelligence" or variations on the theme ("AI-driven", "AI-powered" and so on) were slapped across most new products--although often the artificial overcame the intelligence. Those attending gawped at an interactive bathroom mirror on the stand of Haier, a giant Chinese white-goods maker. Look into it, like the Wicked Queen in Snow White, and instead of being told you are the fairest, your data profile appears on the glass. It displays weight (from an interactive scale), urine-test results (from a sensor on a connected lavatory) and other health-related things.

Is Facebook leaving the purely AI-based news feed to add a "human touch"? โ€ข r/artificial

#artificialintelligence

FB has recently made changes to its news feed (see various reports). I understand that instead of only relying on machine learning to find out what users want to see, they are now actively directing users towards seeing more posts from individuals they know instead of posts from publishers/organizations. Even if the ML-trained system would actually decide that e.g. a video posted by a company is something that generates more attention, FB decides that users should see other stuff instead in their news feed. So does this mean FB is not just relying on AI any more for its news feed? Does that mean AI is not good enough for this job and needs human intervention?

Science fiction movies seem to have done Artificial Intelligence (AI) a bit of a disservice. Due to decades of popular yet farfetched sci-fi releases, when most people think of AI, they think only of evil robots taking over the planet, or perhaps friendlier (but still evil, maybe?) robots along the lines of the robot-woman in Ex Machina. In many ways, however, real-life artificial intelligence has become more interesting than in the movies, with self-driving cars redefining transportation, quantum computing reshaping how we work with large sets of data, and medical robots performing some of the most advanced surgeries known to man with astounding precision. Indeed, the future of technology in many ways belongs to AI. This means that the most exciting and important careers of the future will belong to those who possess a solid understanding of both deep learning and artificial intelligence principles.
