r/artificial - Some good AI courses & tutorials

#artificialintelligence

This is a bizarre list. The top one is Andrew Ng's new non-technical course, but it doesn't include any of his more popular courses that teach you how to actually use AI. I haven't even heard of any of the rest of the courses. They seem to be intentionally picking obscure courses and excluding all the courses that are recommended by people in the industry. Here is a better list.

Google must be broken up to save news media, says Rupert Murdoch's News Corp

The Independent - Tech

Google must be broken up to end its "overwhelming" market power and safeguard the world's news media, Rupert Murdoch's News Corp has said. The news organisation's Australian arm demanded an enforced breakup of Google, which dominates online search and advertising businesses. In an 80-page submission to the Australian government, News Corp, which has itself faced allegations of monopolistic behaviour, said Google's search engine and third-party advertising platform should be separated to allow publishers to compete for ad revenues. We'll tell you what's true. You can form your own view.

Harvard-MIT initiative grants $750K to projects looking to keep tech accountable

#artificialintelligence

Artificial intelligence, or what passes for it, can be found in practically every major tech company and, increasingly, in government programs. A joint Harvard-MIT program just unloaded $750,000 on projects looking to keep such AI developments well understood and well reported. The Ethics and Governance in AI Initiative is a combination research program and grant fund operated by MIT's Media Lab and Harvard's Berkman-Klein Center. The small projects selected by the initiative are generally speaking aimed at using technology to keep people informed, or informing people about technology. AI is an enabler of both good and ill in the world of news and information gathering, as the initiative's director, Tim Hwang, said in a news release: "On one hand, the technology offers a tremendous opportunity to improve the way we work -- including helping journalists find key information buried in mountains of public records. Yet we are also seeing a range of negative consequences as AI becomes intertwined with the spread of misinformation and disinformation online."

Drone Racing League's new season will air on NBC and Twitter

Engadget

Three seasons down the line, the fledgling Drone Racing League (DRL) is still not a household name. But it continues to draw major broadcasters and is now set to make its debut on social media. For its upcoming world championship season, the DRL is making the switch from ESPN to the home of NASCAR: NBC and NBC Sports. For the first time, viewers will also be able to tune in on Twitter via the official @DroneRaceLeague account. For the uninitiated, the races consists of minute-long heats that see pilots -- with monikers, like "Jet" and "ShaggyFPV," that wouldn't look out of place in an eSports tournament -- flying custom-built drones through neon-lit shapes on winding tracks at speeds over 90 miles per hour.

Nationwide deploys SAS analytics to improve customer interaction

#artificialintelligence

Nationwide has deployed SAS analytics solutions to improve up its customer interactions. SAS uses AI to create an ecosystem where those using its Analytics solution can make better decisions based on trusted data. Furthermore, using the power of AI, nationwide will be able to tap into more effective and tailored customer interactions. More than half of all email enquiries could be resolved by guiding members towards digital channels. Sentiment analysis from the SAS solutions helped Nationwide to detect the member's mood; for instance, unsurprisingly, analysts identified that people's moods worsen as the number of emails rises.

Mark Cuban says you -- yes, you -- need to understand how AI works

#artificialintelligence

If, by some chance, you find yourself in Mark Cuban's bathroom, make sure to check out the reading materials. "If you go in my bathroom, there's a book, Machine Learning for Idiots," Cuban said on the latest episode of Recode Media. "Whenever I get a break, I'm reading it." That means everyone, including and especially business owners, are at risk if they don't educate themselves now. "There'll be a time when people take AI and its impact for granted, but if you don't know how to use it and you don't understand it and you can't at least at have a basic understanding of the different approaches and how the algorithms work, you can be blindsided in ways you couldn't even possibly imagine," Cuban said. "Algorithms are a function, literally, of the people who write them. Whoever they are, whatever they are, that's what you're going to get," he added. "If you don't know any better, it's like if you just had somebody who wrote software and didn't know anything about your business. There's going to be all kinds of risks involved. You have to understand it." You can listen to Recode Media wherever you get your podcasts -- including Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Google Podcasts, Pocket Casts, and Overcast. Below, we've shared a lightly edited full transcript of Peter's conversation with Mark, recorded live at Vox Media's The Deep End at South by Southwest 2019. I do a lot of these interviews now, either on a stage like this or at our own conferences or podcasts, and the thing I've learned over years is the best guest you can ever have is a billionaire who owns his or her own company because they can say whatever they want. So that's what we set up for you today. You answer your own emails. You know, I'm talented like that. Thank you for doing that. I'm not going to ask you if you are running for president. Because that's a boring ... I'm gonna get a boring answer. If you did run for president, like everyone else at South By Southwest, what would you campaign on? You put me on the spot. Let's just start by what I think is important, right, and I'm not a candidate so I don't give a shit if you like it or don't like it. First is common sense, right? Second is trying to bring people together.

The Technology of Black Mirror: Fantasy Or Reality?

#artificialintelligence

With the recent release of it's new and platform-redefining, experimental choose-your-own-adventure television episode "Bandersnatch", it seems like the perfect time to take a moment and talk about the incredible show Black Mirror. For those of you who may not be familiar, Black Mirror is a British anthology science fiction television series. It examines modern society, particularly with regard to the unanticipated consequences of new technologies. Episodes are standalone, usually set in an alternative present or the near future, and often subjected to a dark and satirical tone. It's also a really well conceived and written show.

Top 10 Data Science Projects for 2019 DIMENSIONLESS TECHNOLOGIES PVT.LTD.

#artificialintelligence

Data scientists are one of the most hirable specialists today, but it's not so easy to enter this profession without a "Projects" field in your resume. Furthermore, you need the experience to get the job, and you need the job to get the experience. Seems like a vicious circle, right? Also, the great advantage of data science projects is that each of them is a full-stack data science problem. Additionally, this means that you need to formulate the problem, design the solution, find the data, master the technology, build a machine learning model, evaluate the quality, and maybe wrap it into a simple UI.
