AI Service Transformed Thousands Of Women's Photos Into Fake Nudes Without Consent

A computer tool led to the creation of thousands of fake nude photos of women -- some of them underage -- without their consent that were then uploaded to the messaging app Telegram, The Washington Post reported. Sensity, a visual threat intelligence company headquartered in Amsterdam, discovered the Telegram network. There are 101,080 members in the network, and 70% of the group resides in Russia or Europe. About 104,852 images derived from pictures of more than 680,000 women were posted publicly to the app, with 70% of the photos coming from social media or private sources. A small number of victims appeared to be underage.


Shedding Light on Blind Spots: Developing a Reference Architecture to Leverage Video Data for Process Mining

Process mining is one of the most active research streams in business process management. In recent years, numerous methods have been proposed for analyzing structured process data. Yet, in many cases, it is only the digitized parts of processes that are directly captured from process-aware information systems, and manual activities often result in blind spots. While the use of video cameras to observe these activities could help to fill this gap, a standardized approach to extracting event logs from unstructured video data remains lacking. Here, we propose a reference architecture to bridge the gap between computer vision and process mining. Various evaluation activities (i.e., competing artifact analysis, prototyping, and real-world application) ensured that the proposed reference architecture allows flexible, use-case-driven, and context-specific instantiations. Our results also show that an exemplary software prototype instantiation of the proposed reference architecture is capable of automatically extracting most of the process-relevant events from unstructured video data.


ReSCo-CC: Unsupervised Identification of Key Disinformation Sentences

Disinformation is often presented in long textual articles, especially when it relates to domains such as health, often seen in relation to COVID-19. These articles are typically observed to have a number of trustworthy sentences among which core disinformation sentences are scattered. In this paper, we propose a novel unsupervised task of identifying sentences containing key disinformation within a document that is known to be untrustworthy. We design a three-phase statistical NLP solution for the task which starts with embedding sentences within a bespoke feature space designed for the task. Sentences represented using those features are then clustered, following which the key sentences are identified through proximity scoring. We also curate a new dataset with sentence level disinformation scorings to aid evaluation for this task; the dataset is being made publicly available to facilitate further research. Based on a comprehensive empirical evaluation against techniques from related tasks such as claim detection and summarization, as well as against simplified variants of our proposed approach, we illustrate that our method is able to identify core disinformation effectively.
