Amazon Echo Dot (4th gen) review: Alexa's new small budget ball
Amazon's fourth-generation Echo Dot has evolved from its predecessors' puck-like appearance into a small ball, shaking up the idea of what a small smart speaker can look like. The new Echo Dot is priced the same as the last one, costing from ยฃ50, although it will be frequently available at a discount at various retailers, and looks like the full-sized ยฃ80 Echo hit with a shrink ray. It has a fabric top and front, hard plastic sides and back, and Amazon's traditional four-button array for turning the volume up and down, muting the microphones and an action button. It is a cute little ball that doesn't look like a speaker or its competition. But while it takes up the same footprint as its puck-shaped predecessor, it is about twice its height which makes it slightly less discreet in your home.

Distributed Word Representation in Tsetlin Machine

Tsetlin Machine (TM) is an interpretable pattern recognition algorithm based on propositional logic. The algorithm has demonstrated competitive performance in many Natural Language Processing (NLP) tasks, including sentiment analysis, text classification, and Word Sense Disambiguation (WSD). To obtain human-level interpretability, legacy TM employs Boolean input features such as bag-of-words (BOW). However, the BOW representation makes it difficult to use any pre-trained information, for instance, word2vec and GloVe word representations. This restriction has constrained the performance of TM compared to deep neural networks (DNNs) in NLP. To reduce the performance gap, in this paper, we propose a novel way of using pre-trained word representations for TM. The approach significantly enhances the TM performance and maintains interpretability at the same time. We achieve this by extracting semantically related words from pre-trained word representations as input features to the TM. Our experiments show that the accuracy of the proposed approach is significantly higher than the previous BOW-based TM, reaching the level of DNN-based models.

Artificial intelligence and journalism: a race with machines
The term Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a somewhat catch-all term that refers to the different possibilities offered by recent technological developments. From machine learning to natural language processing, news organisations can use AI to automate a huge number of tasks that make up the chain of journalistic production, including detecting, extracting and verifying data, producing stories and graphics, publishing (with sorting, selection and prioritisation filters) and automatically tagging articles. These systems offer numerous advantages: speed in executing complex procedures based on large volumes of data; support for journalistic routines through alerts on events and the provision of draft texts to be supplemented with contextual information; an expansion of media coverage to areas that were previously either not covered or not well covered (the results of matches between'small' sports clubs, for example); optimisation of real-time news coverage; strengthening a media outlet's ties with its audiences by providing them with personalised context according to their location or preferences; and more. But there is a flipside to the coin: the efficiency of these systems depends on the availability and the quality of data fed into them. The principle of garbage in, garbage out (GIGO), tried and tested in the IT world, essentially states that without reliable, accurate and precise input, it is impossible to obtain reliable, accurate and precise output.
Auggie review โ watchable hi-tech satire doesn't quite know what to say
The face of American character actor Richard Kind โ melancholy, hangdog, a little dyspeptic โ is exactly right for this high-concept midlife satire from director and co-writer Matt Kane. It's a variation on a familiar theme the time is the near future and Kind plays Felix, an architect in his 60s who has been pushed out of the firm he helped build and is now at home grumpily adjusting to unwanted retirement. His busy wife and grownup daughter have no great need of him these days so poor, emasculated Felix takes comfort in his hi-tech retirement gift: a pair of "Auggie" glasses, through which the wearer can see an "augmented reality companion", a virtual-reality hologram of exactly the kind of submissively understanding person your subconscious wants to see โ in Felix's case, an extremely attractive young woman (played by newcomer Christen Harper). Felix understands that this is just a projection, a geisha hallucination programmed to respond with the right answers and expressions. But inevitably he begins to fall in love with her, and toys with the "extra" that Auggie owners are invited to purchase: a pair of hi-tech underpants that will allow him to feel his Auggie companion intimately, while his wife is out all day at her prestigious job. This is a movie comparable to Spike Jonze's Her, in which Joaquin Phoenix falls in love with the Siri-type computer voice played by Scarlett Johansson, and Alex Garland's Ex Machina, in which Domhnall Gleeson is entranced by the AI robot played by Alicia Vikander; and like those films it creates a dreamy mood of indulgent comedy.
Spotify's voice-controlled 'Car Thing' is available for some subscribers
At this point, we've seen rumors, job listings, blog posts, FCC filings and more rumors about Spotify's in-car music player over the span of a few years. In fact, I was convinced it would never become a thing the public could actually use. When the company first revealed a piece of hardware called "Car Thing" in 2019, Spotify was clear the test was meant "to help us learn more about how people listen to music and podcasts." It also explained that there weren't "any current plans" to make that device available to consumers. Now Spotify is ready for select users to get their hands on a refined version of the voice-controlled in-car player.
Roku's OS 10 brings AirPlay 2 and HomeKit support to its HD streaming devices
Roku has started rolling out its latest operating system, and it will give its HD streaming devices AirPlay 2 and HomeKit compatibility. When the company first introduced AirPlay 2 support for its platform, only those with select 4K players and TVs could take advantage of the feature. Now, even those with Roku Express and some HD Roku TV models will be able to stream content directly from their iPhones, iPads and Macs. They'll also be able to control those devices through Siri or the Apple Home app, thanks to the added HomeKit support. Another notable Roku OS 10 feature is Instant Resume, which automatically takes viewers back to the place where they last left off for a faster reload experience. It only works on supported channels, though, and there are only 15 or so at the moment, including AT&T TV, FilmRise, FOX Business Network, FOX News Channel, Fubo Sports Network, HappyKids TV, Plex.tv,
