Stanford University robotics experts developed the tech for uses like navigating small spaces in search and rescue missions. The findings were announced in a scientific journal today. The robots of the cartoons and movies from the 1970s will be the reality of the 2020s. This pandemic has massively accelerated investment and developments in artificial intelligence and this will have far-reaching implications on the American workforce. I saw this firsthand when I visited a factory where a company was packaging pharmaceuticals.
Google adds a guitar tuner to Search
Smartphones have made it easier than ever to tune your guitar. All you have to do these days is find a decent tuning app or ask Google Assistant to tune your instrument. Now Google has made the process even more painless by launching a chromatic tuner right within Search. The tech giant has told Android Police that it has just rolled out the new Search feature, which can be accessed on pretty much any device. Unlike the Assistant function that needs, well, a device that can access the voice assistant, you can summon this tuner simply by doing a query in Search on mobile or desktop.
How a team of musicologists and computer scientists completed Beethoven's unfinished 10th Symphony
When Ludwig van Beethoven died in 1827, he was three years removed from the completion of his Ninth Symphony, a work heralded by many as his magnum opus. He had started work on his 10th Symphony but, due to deteriorating health, wasn't able to make much headway: all he left behind were some musical sketches. Ever since then, Beethoven fans and musicologists have puzzled and lamented over what could have been. His notes teased at some magnificent reward, albeit one that seemed forever out of reach. Now, thanks to the work of a team of music historians, musicologists, composers and computer scientists, Beethoven's vision will come to life.

Generating a complex work of art such as a musical composition requires exhibiting true creativity that depends on a variety of factors that are related to the hierarchy of musical language. Music generation have been faced with Algorithmic methods and recently, with #DeepLearning models. The relationships between AI-based music composition models and human musical composition and creativity processes, give an overview of the recent Deep Learning models for music composition and compare these models to the music composition process from a Algorithmic point of view. Trying to solve of the most relevant open questions for this task by analysing the ability of current Deep Learning models to generate music with creativity or the similarity between AI and human composition processes, among others.
A guided journey through non-interactive automatic story generation
We present a literature survey on non-interactive computational story generation. The article starts with the presentation of requirements for creative systems, three types of models of creativity (computational, socio-cultural, and individual), and models of human creative writing. Then it reviews each class of story generation approach depending on the used technology: story-schemas, analogy, rules, planning, evolutionary algorithms, implicit knowledge learning, and explicit knowledge learning. Before the concluding section, the article analyses the contributions of the reviewed work to improve the quality of the generated stories. This analysis addresses the description of the story characters, the use of narrative knowledge including about character believability, and the possible lack of more comprehensive or more detailed knowledge or creativity models. Finally, the article presents concluding remarks in the form of suggestions of research topics that might have a significant impact on the advancement of the state of the art on autonomous non-interactive story generation systems. The article concludes that the autonomous generation and adoption of the main idea to be conveyed and the autonomous design of the creativity ensuring criteria are possibly two of most important topics for future research.
