SoundCloud buys an AI music company to help discover hidden gems
SoundCloud wants to make it easier to find must-listen tunes buried deep in its catalog. TechCrunch notes the company has bought Musiio, an AI music curation company. The firm's technology uses AI to "listen" to songs, tag them and slot them into playlists. Ideally, this improves the chances of discovering tracks you like, whether they're from an established artist or a new bedroom DJ. The companies didn't disclose the terms of the deal, but said Musiio would "become core" to SoundCloud's discovery system.
How AI can help fight misinformation - ITU Hub
Disinformation has become a global problem affecting citizens, governments and businesses. Identifying and isolating so-called "fake news" poses a major challenge across today's growing digital information ecosystem. But advances in artificial intelligence (AI) could increasingly help online information users sort out fact from fiction. The Global Disinformation Index (GDI) collects data on how misinformation – or disinformation, when deliberate – travels and spreads. The index, put out by a US-based non-profit organization, can help governments, media professionals, and other web users assess the trustworthiness of online content.
Spotify becomes the first music streaming brand to join the metaverse
Spotify has become the first streaming music service to join the metaverse, launching a new virtual island on the Roblox platform. The island lets users meet their favorite musical artists, play different sounds, explore quests, collect virtual merchandise and listen to music, Spotify confirmed. Increasingly younger people are spending more of their time in virtual worlds, such as Minecraft and Roblox, where they interact, rather than passively watch or listen. Roblox is a platform, allowing developers to create games that act as individual worlds for the more than 44 million daily active users to join. However, it has come under fire for not doing enough to protect its younger users.
Splice CoSo enlists AI to help you create music quickly with samples
Splice, the popular music production service with a seemingly bottomless supply of samples, has just unveiled a new way to find inspiration from those sounds. CoSo is what it calls an "intelligent musical sketch pad" that lets you create "using your ear to find what appeals to you," the company wrote in a press release. CoSo allows you to you stack up to eight samples based on genre or instrument type to quickly create loops, with a big assist from AI. Everything stays in key, beats per minute (BMP) are synced, and you can swipe to delete a sample or swap in a new one automatically. Once you create a loop, it's easy to share it on TikTok or export as an Ableton-ready project file. We've attached an example of what a creation looks like when shared via links, showing the final result and sounds used.
