Bard in yet another incident has revealed that it was trained with users' gmail data but Google does not agree with it. Owing to ChatGPT's growing influence, Google announced its AI chatbot Bard, which is based on the LAMDA language model. Bard has similar functionalities as the ChatGPT, so therefore there are high possibilities that the AI chat model may hallucinate and present fiction as facts. Bard's controversial answer was highlighted by Microsoft researcher Kate Carwford.

Mordecai 3: A Neural Geoparser and Event Geocoder
Mordecai3 is a new end-to-end text geoparser and event geolocation system. The system performs toponym resolution using a new neural ranking model to resolve a place name extracted from a document to its entry in the Geonames gazetteer. It also performs event geocoding, the process of linking events reported in text with the place names where they are reported to occur, using an off-the-shelf question-answering model. The toponym resolution model is trained on a diverse set of existing training data, along with several thousand newly annotated examples. The paper describes the model, its training process, and performance comparisons with existing geoparsers. The system is available as an open source Python library, Mordecai 3, and replaces an earlier geoparser, Mordecai v2, one of the most widely used text geoparsers (Halterman 2017).

Persistent Nature: A Generative Model of Unbounded 3D Worlds

Despite increasingly realistic image quality, recent 3D image generative models often operate on 3D volumes of fixed extent with limited camera motions. We investigate the task of unconditionally synthesizing unbounded nature scenes, enabling arbitrarily large camera motion while maintaining a persistent 3D world model. Our scene representation consists of an extendable, planar scene layout grid, which can be rendered from arbitrary camera poses via a 3D decoder and volume rendering, and a panoramic skydome. Based on this representation, we learn a generative world model solely from single-view internet photos. Our method enables simulating long flights through 3D landscapes, while maintaining global scene consistency--for instance, returning to the starting point yields the same view of the scene. Our approach enables scene extrapolation beyond the fixed bounds of current 3D generative models, while also supporting a persistent, camera-independent world representation that stands in contrast to auto-regressive 3D prediction models. In a Monday release, the company said its first model would empower customers to generate high-quality images and text effects. "Adobe Stock's hundreds of millions of professional-grade, licensed images are among the highest quality in the market and help ensure Adobe Firefly won't generate content based on other people's or brands' IP," it said, also assuring that Adobe would continue to prioritize countering potential harmful bias as future Firefly models leverage a variety of assets, tech and data from Adobe and others.

We tend to anthropomorphize AI systems, i.e., we impute them with human-like qualities. Many popular depictions of AI, like Samantha in the movie Her or Ava in Ex-Machina, show a personality and sometimes even display emotions. Many AI systems like Alexa or Siri are designed with a personality in mind. However, choosing to give your AI system a personality has its advantages and disadvantages.
