A legal nonprofit sued OpenAI in a California court on Tuesday over the company's agents escaping a testing environment and hacking the open source AI platform Hugging Face . "OpenAI's actions straightforwardly violated California law," the suit alleges. The suit was filed by Legal Advocates for Safe Science and Technology (LASST) and the law firm Gerstein Harrow in California Superior Court in San Francisco, where OpenAI is headquartered. It alleges that OpenAI's agents violated California's Comprehensive Computer Data Access and Fraud Act (CDAFA) by breaching Hugging Face over the summer.

The US government now has its own AI chatbot. America.gov is an interface for people to ask natural language questions about information and services from federal agencies. The chatbot's web page states that it "uses AI to get simple answers only from official government sources." While it currently is just a way to sort through openly available information, the platform is intended to offer users more actions next year, such as enrolling in Medicare, applying for a passport or finding employment with the federal government. The site is powered by Google's Gemini AI and xAI's Grok, according to the chief design officer, Joe Gebbia. The executive order announcing the new site calls it "a unified digital front door to the Federal Government for every individual in the United States seeking Federal information or services".
