Credit Scoring for Micro-Loans

Credit Scores are ubiquitous and instrumental for loan providers and regulators. In this paper we showcase how micro-loan credit system can be developed in real setting. We show what challenges arise and discuss solutions. Particularly, we are concerned about model interpretability and data quality. In the final section, we introduce semi-supervised algorithm that aids model development and evaluate its performance.

Thanks to the Big Data revolution and increasing computing capacities, Artificial Intelligence (AI) has made an impressive revival over the past few years and is now omnipresent in both research and industry. The creative sectors have always been early adopters of AI technologies and this continues to be the case. As a matter of fact, recent technological developments keep pushing the boundaries of intelligent systems in creative applications: the critically acclaimed movie "Sunspring", released in 2016, was entirely written by AI technology, and the first-ever Music Album, called "Hello World", produced using AI has been released this year. Simultaneously, the exploratory nature of the creative process is raising important technical challenges for AI such as the ability for AI-powered techniques to be accurate under limited data resources, as opposed to the conventional "Big Data" approach, or the ability to process, analyse and match data from multiple modalities (text, sound, images, etc.) at the same time. The purpose of this white paper is to understand future technological advances in AI and their growing impact on creative industries. This paper addresses the following questions: Where does AI operate in creative Industries? What is its operative role? How will AI transform creative industries in the next ten years? This white paper aims to provide a realistic perspective of the scope of AI actions in creative industries, proposes a vision of how this technology could contribute to research and development works in such context, and identifies research and development challenges.

A report from the Wall Street Journal has revealed the US is using a new type of dive-bombing'missile' that kills targets without exploding. The weapon called the R9X, or the'flying Ginsu,' is designed to crush targets by dropping through buildings and cars with the help of a six large blades that deploy seconds before impact. According to the report, the goal of the weapon is to reduce unintended casualties caused by other more standard missiles that typically detonate and engulf both targets and their surroundings. Hellfire missiles may be effective, but they often endanger innocent bystanders. The R9X or'flying Ginsu' is a weapon developed by the US military to precision-target individuals.

Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos has revealed the ambitious next steps for his aerospace company at a highly-secretive media event in Washington, D.C. on Thursday. During the event, which kicked off at 4 p.m., the billionaire and Blue Origin founder started off by sharing elaborate concept images of self-sustaining space habitats reminiscent of the film Interstellar, with lush greenery and futuristic homes within its walls. Fastest supercomputer in the world will be built in the US by 2021

The U.S. says it will have the world's fastest supercomputer ready in just two years. The U.S. Department of Energy says it has signed a contract with Cray Inc. and Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) to build a machine called Frontier, capable of computing at 1.5 exaflops -- a level 50 times faster than current supercomputers. The department says its endeavor, which entails a $600 million investment for the development of technology and systems, will help yield new advances in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and more. Frontier will take computers U.S. computers into the exascale, and will be as powerful as the next 160 fastest supercomputers combined'Frontier's record-breaking performance will ensure our country's ability to lead the world in science that improves the lives and economic prosperity of all Americans and the entire world,' said U.S. Secretary of Energy, Rick Perry. 'Frontier will accelerate innovation in AI by giving American researchers world-class data and computing resources to ensure the next great inventions are made in the United States.' According to the U.S. Department of Energy, Frontier, which will be housed at a laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, will be able to exceed one quintillion calculations per second, as reported by The Verge -- that's as much processing power as the next 160 fastest supercomputer combined, said AMD.


Integrating Artificial Intelligence into Weapon Systems

The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into weapon systems is one of the most consequential tactical and strategic decisions in the history of warfare. Current AI development is a remarkable combination of accelerating capability, hidden decision mechanisms, and decreasing costs. Implementation of these systems is in its infancy and exists on a spectrum from resilient and flexible to simplistic and brittle. Resilient systems should be able to effectively handle the complexities of a high-dimensional battlespace. Simplistic AI implementations could be manipulated by an adversarial AI that identifies and exploits their weaknesses. In this paper, we present a framework for understanding the development of dynamic AI/ML systems that interactively and continuously adapt to their user's needs. We explore the implications of increasingly capable AI in the kill chain and how this will lead inevitably to a fully automated, always on system, barring regulation by treaty. We examine the potential of total integration of cyber and physical security and how this likelihood must inform the development of AI-enabled systems with respect to the "fog of war", human morals, and ethics.


Bidirectional RNN-based Few-shot Training for Detecting Multi-stage Attack

"Feint Attack", as a new type of APT attack, has become the focus of attention. It adopts a multi-stage attacks mode which can be concluded as a combination of virtual attacks and real attacks. Under the cover of virtual attacks, real attacks can achieve the real purpose of the attacker, as a result, it often caused huge losses inadvertently. However, to our knowledge, all previous works use common methods such as Causal-Correlation or Cased-based to detect outdated multi-stage attacks. Few attentions have been paid to detect the "Feint Attack", because the difficulty of detection lies in the diversification of the concept of "Feint Attack" and the lack of professional datasets, many detection methods ignore the semantic relationship in the attack. Aiming at the existing challenge, this paper explores a new method to solve the problem. In the attack scenario, the fuzzy clustering method based on attribute similarity is used to mine multi-stage attack chains. Then we use a few-shot deep learning algorithm (SMOTE&CNN-SVM) and bidirectional Recurrent Neural Network model (Bi-RNN) to obtain the "Feint Attack" chains. "Feint Attack" is simulated by the real attack inserted in the normal causal attack chain, and the addition of the real attack destroys the causal relationship of the original attack chain. So we used Bi-RNN coding to obtain the hidden feature of "Feint Attack" chain. In the end, our method achieved the goal to detect the "Feint Attack" accurately by using the LLDoS1.0 and LLDoS2.0 of DARPA2000 and CICIDS2017 of Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity.

A federal lawmaker wants to introduce legislation that would ban "pay to win" practices and "loot boxes" from all video games. In a statement released Wednesday, Sen. Josh Hawley, a Republican representing Missouri, said video games offering these systems are preying on user addiction, particularly among children. "When a game is designed for kids, game developers shouldn't be allowed to monetize addiction," said Hawley in a statement. "And when kids play games designed for adults, they should be walled off from compulsive microtransactions."
