Assessing Political Prudence of Open-domain Chatbots

Politically sensitive topics are still a challenge for open-domain chatbots. However, dealing with politically sensitive content in a responsible, non-partisan, and safe behavior way is integral for these chatbots. Currently, the main approach to handling political sensitivity is by simply changing such a topic when it is detected. This is safe but evasive and results in a chatbot that is less engaging. In this work, as a first step towards a politically safe chatbot, we propose a group of metrics for assessing their political prudence. We then conduct political prudence analysis of various chatbots and discuss their behavior from multiple angles Figure 1: Illustration of responses from different chatbots through our automatic metric and human in a political conversation. FedNLP: An interpretable NLP System to Decode Federal Reserve Communications

The Federal Reserve System (the Fed) plays a significant role in affecting monetary policy and financial conditions worldwide. Although it is important to analyse the Fed's communications to extract useful information, it is generally long-form and complex due to the ambiguous and esoteric nature of content. In this paper, we present FedNLP, an interpretable multi-component Natural Language Processing system to decode Federal Reserve communications. This system is designed for end-users to explore how NLP techniques can assist their holistic understanding of the Fed's communications with NO coding. Behind the scenes, FedNLP uses multiple NLP models from traditional machine learning algorithms to deep neural network architectures in each downstream task. The demonstration shows multiple results at once including sentiment analysis, summary of the document, prediction of the Federal Funds Rate movement and visualization for interpreting the prediction model's result.

"It is also calling us to make sure that innovation is everywhere."

Biden administration forms new AI task force

Everything you need to know about Artificial Intelligence The Biden administration on Thursday announced the formation the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Research Resource Task Force, a group of 10 AI experts who will create a plan for giving AI researchers more access to data, computational resources and other tools. Congress mandated the creation of the task force when it passed the National AI Initiative Act of 2020. The group will set up the National AI Research Resource (NAIRR) -- shared research infrastructure that the White House says will "spur AI innovation and economic prosperity nationwide." The NAIRR will be designed for AI researchers and students across all scientific disciplines. "By bringing together the nation's foremost experts from academia, industry, and government, we will be able to chart an exciting and compelling path forward, ensuring long-term US competitiveness in all fields of science and engineering and all sectors of our economy," NSF Director Sethuraman Panchanathan said in a statement.

This first blog post will focus on how Artificial Intelligence (AI) evolved throughout the years, I will mention and describe some of the milestones of this evolution and analyse how it became part of our lives and how it will become even more important in the future. Digital technology has been one of the fastest-growing tech in the history of mankind, today our phones have hundreds of GB of storage and process data faster than a computer would a few decades ago, the only other branches of technology that have developed this quickly are weapons. To put that into perspective, the blog that I am now writing will occupy more than 14kb of space in my storage, nowadays, we are used of talking about Megabytes or Gigabytes, or even Terabytes. Using kilobytes for everyday use would be like weighing a person in grams.

The Biden administration launches the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource Task Force
The U.S. National Science Foundation and the Office of Science and Technology Policy announce the government, academic and private sector representatives who will serve on the task force The U.S. National Science Foundation and the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy today announced the formation of the National Artificial Intelligence Research Resource Task Force. As directed by Congress in the "National AI Initiative Act of 2020," the task force will serve as a federal advisory committee, developing an implementation roadmap for the National AI Research Resource, a shared research infrastructure providing AI researchers and students across all scientific disciplines with access to computational resources, high-quality data, educational tools and user support. The task force will provide recommendations for establishing and sustaining the National AI Research Resource, including technical capabilities, governance, administration, assessment and requirements for security, privacy, civil rights and civil liberties. It will also submit two reports to Congress that will comprise a comprehensive roadmap and implementation plan. The task force will deliver an interim report in May 2022 and a final report in November 2022.
