The Dim Future of Higher Education - Dale Callahan
Headed to a university near you – Disruption. But not in the way you might expect. Most believe it will be the MOOCs (Massive Open Online Courses) that forever changes the landscape of higher education – but something much more close to all of us will be the demise. For years the college degree has been the path of success. The colleges said it was the path, and the culture followed suits pouring their hard earned (or borrowed) money into a college education for us and our children.

If the math behind data science is an enigma, the Khan Academy is a great place for insight. There are courses for different levels, and Sal Khan's relaxed delivery will get you through even the most difficult concepts (I think I have a small crush on him after the hours I've spent listening to his narratives!).
From TED Talks to Snoo, 15 Histories of the Future
We may take the #hashtag for granted today, but it didn't emerge fully formed from Biz Stone's head. The Large Hadron Collider hasn't collapsed (or collapsed the space-time continuum), but that wasn't a given when scientists first turned the thing on. Nobody thought the sweaty geeks who sent their supposedly self-driving cars into concrete barriers instead of across the Mojave Desert would soon threaten to upend the way we move through the world. Oh, and remember the Microsoft trial? When we started planning our 25th birthday party more than a year ago, we knew that not all readers (okay, not even most readers) would have been following us since day one, and they certainly wouldn't recall every story we've told.
Why we're training the next generation of lawyers in big data
Artificial intelligence is transforming the traditional delivery of legal services. In general terms, the set of tools broadly called "legal analytics" promises to do two things: increase the efficiency of tasks that once required substantial time and human effort, and mine masses of data to discover new insights that were previously inaccessible. As legal scholars, we're excited about the promise of applying these tools to legal research questions. Students are involved too, so that we can educate the next generation of lawyers to leverage these tools in their own practices. Suppose that a company wants to forecast which employee complaints lead to lawsuits.
5 reasons why B-schools are teaching Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML)
There is no doubt that Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are the two hot buzzwords right now. Examples of how AI and ML based disruptive practices are replacing traditional businesses on one hand while creating new business opportunities, on the other hand, are many. In a nutshell, AI is the broader concept of machines being able to carry out tasks in a'smart' way while ML prescribes the set of such'smart' rules that the computer figures itself out. It is no exaggeration to say the current and the future belongs to AI and ML. It is estimated that in USA, there are more than 10,000 positions available at top employers across the country and additionally, the country is estimated to have 2, 50,000 open data science jobs by 2024.
How AI will shape the university of the future - eCampus News
In light of the fact that only 59 percent of students who begin pursuing a four-year degree at a higher-ed institution graduate within six years, many in the industry are seeking innovative ways to improve student outcomes. Recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have led to its adoption across many sectors. The multidisciplinary field presents a wide variety of opportunities for application, giving it great potential for use in higher education. We are only beginning to scratch the surface of the many ways this technology could be used to help universities improve the student experience. AI uses on campus One way AI could revolutionize the higher ed experience is through automating the course-scheduling process. Rather than the current, sometimes lengthy, process of searching for courses that fit specific schedule and major requirements and deliberating over which ones to take, students could simply input any particular scheduling conflicts, such as a job or extracurricular activity, and receive a suggested course schedule tailored to their academic needs that fits within their time constraints.
Artificial Intelligence – Witan World
AI works by combining large amounts of data with fast, iterative processing and intelligent algorithms, allowing the software to learn automatically from patterns or features in the data. In summary, the goal of AI is to provide software that can reason on input and explain on output. AI will provide human-like interactions with software and offer decision support for specific tasks, but it's not a replacement for humans – and won't be anytime soon. Why is Artificial Intelligence important? Currently, AI works by formulating tasks as prediction problems and then using statistical techniques and lots of data to make predictions.
How Microsoft Uses Machine Learning to Help You Build Machine Learning Pipelines
Last week at its Ignite Conference, Microsoft unveiled the preview version of Automated Machine Learning(ML), a component of Azure ML that allows non-data science experts to build machine learning pipelines. Microsoft's automated machine learning can be seen as their entrance in the popular Auto ML space which is quickly becoming one of the most active areas of research in the machine learning space. The work behind Microsoft's automated machine learning were outlined in a research paper published a few months ago. Building machine learning solutions in the real world is a never-ending cycle of different steps such as extracting features, identifying models, tuning hyperparameters, etc. Each one of these tasks requires specific expertise that results overwhelming to non-data scientists.
Study confirms link between violent video games and physical aggression
Here are 10 games based on real life locations that not only offer a great gaming experience, but inspire travel as well! Electronic Arts shares dropped on Thursday after the company announced that it would be updating its outlook as well as its "Battlefield V" launch date. The latest in the long-standing debate over violent video games: They do cause players to become more physically aggressive. An international study looking at more than 17,000 adolescents, ages nine to 19, from 2010 to 2017, found playing violent video games led to increased physical aggression over time. The analysis of 24 studies from countries including the U.S., Canada, Germany and Japan found those who played violent games such as "Grand Theft Auto," "Call of Duty" and "Manhunt" were more likely to exhibit behavior such as being sent to the principal's office for fighting or hitting a non-family member.
