Top YouTube Machine Learning Channels - KDnuggets
KDnuggets recently brought you the Top YouTube Channels for Data Science, employing a qualitative approach to identifying those channels of value on the platform. As the endeavour seemed to be be useful to some of our readers, we have repeated the exercise, this time bringing you the top machine learning channels that YouTube has to offer. For this iteration we changed up our metric for determining the "top" channels. We have maintained our quantitative approach, but tweaked the specifics. The results to this search were gathered on March 21, 2021, and appeared at this URL at the time.
Symposium on Educational Advances in Artificial Intelligence – a summary from the co-chairs
The Symposium on Educational Advances in Artificial Intelligence (EAAI) seeks to advance the AAAI goal of improving the teaching and training of AI practitioners. Organized as an independent symposium within the AAAI conference, EAAI provides the opportunity for researchers, educators, and students to share educational experiences involving AI. EAAI 2021 provided a venue for discussing pedagogical issues and sharing resources related to teaching and using AI in education. It cut across a variety of curricular levels, from K-12 through postgraduate training. The symposium showcased ideas for how to effectively teach AI as well as the growing impact of AI in enhancing education.
Unleashing Early Maturity Academic Innovations
The Arab region consists of many teaching-intensive universities that are intrinsically committed to holistic educational excellence. According to a recent UNESCO report,5 the higher education sector in the Arab region is undergoing a need for massive expansion given exponentially growing populations, record-breaking youth cohorts, coupled with a strong recognition of the economic and social value of higher education. Such an enormous need for growth poses a significant challenge for publicly funded universities yet offers many opportunities for private universities to meet the ever-increasing demands of advanced education.2 As is the case with many similar universities worldwide, not being dedicated research institutions often results in limited availability of research funds, resources, and hence innovation throughput. The examples given in this paper are those of universities in the region that were initially focused on consolidating their teaching, except for one which started first as research-intensive. However, it was not long before a shift in policy included research excellence in undergraduate education by harnessing the most valuable resource of any university: the aspiring students themselves.
Non-Traditional Data Sources
The world is facing enormous challenges, ranging from climate change to extreme poverty. The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)a were adopted by United Nations Member States in 2015 as an operational framework to address these challenges. The SDGs include No Poverty, Quality Education, Gender Equality, Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, among others, as well as a meta goal on Partnerships for the Goals. Despite limitations,7 the SDGs form a rare global consensus of all 193 UN member states on where we should collectively be heading. Goals are meaningless without a way to track their progress. Data on the SDGs and the associated indicatorsb are often outdated or unavailable, hindering progress during the Decade of Action leading up to 2030.c
The Best of NLP
When it was released by Google just a few years ago, a deep-learning model called BERT demonstrated a major step forward in natural language processing (NLP). BERT's core structure, based on a type of neural network known as a Transformer, has become the underpinning for a range of NLP applications, from completing search queries and user-written sentences to language translation. The models even score well on benchmarks intended to test understanding at a high school level, such as Large-scale ReAding Comprehension (RACE) developed at Carnegie Mellon University. In doing so, they have become marketing tools in the artificial intelligence (AI) gold rush. At Nvidia's annual technology conference, president and CEO Jen-Hsun Huang used RACE to claim high performance for his company's implementation of BERT.

We are looking for a postdoctoral scholar who can lead a new project which aims to reveal the mechanisms behind the development of asthma in pre-school children. We will develop a mechanistic model (in silico) by integrating clinical data (in vivo) and experimental data (in vitro), to predict which pre-school wheezers will develop asthma and elucidate dynamic patterns underlying the progression of pre-school wheezing. Prior experiences in mechanistic modelling of biological systems and/or in machine learning analysis of clinical data are essential.
