Teaching Uncertainty Quantification in Machine Learning through Use Cases
Uncertainty in machine learning is not generally taught as general knowledge in Machine Learning course curricula. In this paper we propose a short curriculum for a course about uncertainty in machine learning, and complement the course with a selection of use cases, aimed to trigger discussion and let students play with the concepts of uncertainty in a programming setting. Our use cases cover the concept of output uncertainty, Bayesian neural networks and weight distributions, sources of uncertainty, and out of distribution detection. We expect that this curriculum and set of use cases motivates the community to adopt these important concepts into courses for safety in AI.
Quarky - reconfigurable robot kit that teaches kids Artificial Intelligence through play!
STEMpedia is going to launch a revolutionary AI learning kit that will transform the conventional learning system as we know it. Known as Quarky, the kit allows kids aged seven to 14 years old to enjoy the thrill of emerging technologies by indulging in exciting hands-on learning. Quarky opens a world of possibilities for kids as they learn, innovate and grow. Being much more than just an educational kit, it allows them to explore real-world application-based concepts of AI, robotics, and programming. Kids can learn and unleash their curiosity by building DIY robots based on machine learning, speech recognition, face recognition, and much more, thereby making their own Alexa, self-driving cars, face-unlocks, and whatnot!
Students that pet, cuddle dogs have improved well-being and are less stressed, study finds
Petting and cuddling a dog can have a big impact on students' well-being, according to new research from Canada. Academics at the University of British Columbia divided 284 students into three groups: One could interact with a therapy dog, but wasn't allowed to touch it, while a second group could both interact and touch their therapy dog. The third group, a control, met with a dog handler but no dog. Before the experiment, the volunteers were asked about their overall wellbeing--including social connectedness, happiness, integration into the campus community, stress, homesickness, loneliness, positive and negative affect, and'self-perceptions of flourishing.' All groups saw some improvement, but only the group allowed to pet their therapy dog illustrated major improvement in all the categories.
A deep understanding of deep learning (with Python intro)
Created by Mike X Cohen 54.5 hours on-demand video course Deep learning is increasingly dominating technology and has major implications for society. From self-driving cars to medical diagnoses, from face recognition to deep fakes, and from language translation to music generation, deep learning is spreading like wildfire throughout all areas of modern technology. But deep learning is not only about super-fancy, cutting-edge, highly sophisticated applications. Deep learning is increasingly becoming a standard tool in machine-learning, data science, and statistics. Deep learning is used by small startups for data mining and dimension reduction, by governments for detecting tax evasion, and by scientists for detecting patterns in their research data.
Free From Stanford: Machine Learning with Graphs - KDnuggets
Many top universities make some of their courses available for free to non-students, a trend which has been gradually increasing over the years. While perhaps not the first example of such an offering, we can thank Andrew Ng (among others, certainly) for making his Stanford Machine Learning course available beyond the classroom, first via third party means, and then as one of the first courses on the MOOC platform Coursera. Since then, courses offered both via such a platform as well as those with publicly-accessible course websites have rapidly increased in number. There are no shortages of quality, free university level courses these days & mdash especially in computer science, data science, machine learning, and other tech disciplines. Right off the bat, note that when we say "free" we mean that much of a course's learning material has been made available to the masses without cost.
How to Attend ODSC APAC 2021 For Free
To help grow and strengthen the data science community, we are offering several ways to attend the leading applied data science virtual conference, ODSC APAC for free. Check out below how you can join us for talks by some of the leading experts in data science, AI, machine learning and more for free. At ODSC, diversity, inclusion, and democratization of data science are core values. At each conference we strive to create an inclusive experience, ensuring unrepresented groups feel welcome in the data science community. As part of this initiative, we are offering a limited amount of scholarship passes for free and discounted passes.
Top 10 Machine Learning Tools 2021
Machine learning (ML) is one approach for businesses to improve how they use large data to better understand their consumers' behaviour, happiness and loyalty. ML can look for patterns and abnormalities that users wouldn't think to look for on their own. Some machine learning algorithms are pre-programmed to specialise in a certain task, but in this article, we'll focus on machine learning tools that allow users to create their own machine learning methods for any data they have. Now, let's get down to the top 10 machine learning tools of 2021. Shogun toolbox, often known as Shogun, is a machine learning tool library that is independent and accessible to use.
IIM Ahmedabad Launches Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad has launched the Brij Disa Centre for Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (CDSA) to enable research in the field. This will support businesses, governance, and policymaking, the institute states. It aims to connect scholars and practitioners in data-intensive organisations. It will also undertake case-based research to understand the current industry practice and develop case studies for classroom teaching. CDSA will also be responsible for the dissemination of the knowledge to a wide audience both within and outside the realm of the institute through seminars, workshops, and conferences.
PhD scholarship in Machine Learning for Multispectral Image Analysis
Candidates should have a two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or a similar degree with an academic level equivalent to a two-year master's degree. We expect that you have studied topics in computer science, mathematics, or similar including experience in image analysis, computer vision, machine learning, etc. Furthermore, the ability to program in Python, Matlab, C, or similar is important. Also, the ability to work in a multidisciplinary environment is essential, as is a good command of the English language. Multispectral imaging can be used for indirectly measuring the microorganisms associated with the plant leaves.
My Favorite Machine Learning Resources (in no particular order)
Machine learning is a rapidly expanding field and it can be difficult to find beginner resources to get introduced to the topics you are interested in. When I first started getting into machine learning is was hard to find resources that both covered in detail the topic in which I was interested and were also written for someone with a beginner's knowledge of machine learning. After about four years of researching a variety of topics related to machine learning, these are the resources that I have found to be the most helpful for someone getting started in the field. Machine learning is a field that is evolving extremely rapidly, and as such printed material cannot keep up with all of the new innovations. Because of this, some of the best platforms to get updated information in machine learning are blogs and websites. Medium is an online publishing platform that hosts several blogs that are dedicated to machine learning and data science.
