15 top data science certifications

#artificialintelligence

Data scientist is one of the hottest jobs in IT. Companies are increasingly eager to hire data professionals who can make sense of the wide array of data the business collects. If you are looking to get into this lucrative field, or want to stand out against the competition, certification can be key. Data science certifications give you an opportunity not only to develop skills that are hard to find in your desired industry but also to validate your data science know-how so that recruiters and hiring managers know what they're getting if they hire you. Whether you're looking to earn a certification from an accredited university, gain experience as a new grad, hone vendor-specific skills, or demonstrate your knowledge of data analytics, the following certifications (presented in alphabetical order) will work for you.

Should Crickets Be on the Menu Now, or Just in the End Times?

Slate

An expert on the future of food responds to JoeAnn Hart's "Good Job, Robin." The first time I seriously considered crickets as the food of the future was in late 2015 during a presentation by undergraduates. Their policy proposal outlining how the adoption of insect protein in the Los Angeles Area could help insulate the region from some of the impacts of climate-change included a tasting of a recent-to-market, paleo-friendly, cricket-based protein bar. As I sunk my teeth into the slightly gummy, peanut-buttery bite being passed around the classroom, my mind flashed between the grim food futures presented in science fiction novels and the much smaller collection of hopeful fiction portrayals of delicious future feasts. What is it about our contemporary anxieties that makes it so easy to imagine such dystopic food futures?

IFR predicts 'Top 5 Robot Trends of 2022' as total industrial robots sales reach a new record

#artificialintelligence

The International Federation of Robotics has published what it predicts will be the top five industry trends of 2022. The main theme underlying the trends will be that robots with new features and functions will capture new areas and create new markets. The operational stock of industrial robots hit a new record of about 3 million units worldwide โ€“ increasing by 13 percent on average each year (2015-2020). Milton Guerry, president of the IFR, says: "Transformation for robotic automation is picking up speed across traditional and new industries. More and more companies are realizing the numerous advantages robotics provides for their businesses."

AI Teaches Brain Tumor Surgery Better Than Human Experts

#artificialintelligence

Machine learning algorithms enhanced medical students' technical performance and learning outcomes during a simulated brain tumor surgery, a new study shows. The COVID-19 pandemic has presented both challenges and opportunities for medical training. Remote learning technology has become increasingly important in several fields. The new study finds that in a remote environment, an artificial intelligence (AI) tutoring system can outperform expert human instructors. The Neurosurgical Simulation and Artificial Intelligence Learning Centre at The Neuro at Montreal Neurological Institute-Hospital recruited 70 medical students to perform virtual brain tumor removals on a neurosurgical simulator.

Underrated Kaggle notebooks every data science enthusiast must know

#artificialintelligence

Kaggle is synonymous with competitions and hackathons in the world of data science, but it is also a great resource to learn more about the field through community-driven notebooks. In contrast to textbooks and lectures, Kaggle notebooks or kernels provide data scientists with tutorials in their language. These are essentially Jupyter notebooks that run in the browser free of charge and without even needing to set up a local environment for Jupyter. In addition, these notebooks explore and run machine learning code and discover vast public and open-sourced repositories. While there are hundreds of thousands of notebooks on Kaggle, all data enthusiasts must-read are the top eight underrated notebooks.

UC Berkeley Robot Navigation could Chart New Course for Self-Driving Systems

#artificialintelligence

Robots and self-driving cars have one very large challenge in common, how to navigate the world. Typically, that task is approached by artificial intelligence as a problem of how to map the surroundings, to construct a precise overview of the geometry of a scene before a robot or a car moves across that terrain. There may be a simpler way.

Fees are charged by year of entry to the College and not year of study. Except where otherwise indicated, the fees for students on courses lasting more than one year will increase annually by an amount linked to inflation, including for part-time students on modular programmes. The measure of inflation used will be the Retail Price Index (RPI) value in the April of the calendar year in which the academic session starts e.g. the RPI value in April 2022 will apply to fees for the academic year 2022-2023. Whether you pay the Home fee depends on your fee status. Your fee status is assessed based on UK Government legislation and includes things like where you live and your nationality or residency status.
