InsertGNN: Can Graph Neural Networks Outperform Humans in TOEFL Sentence Insertion Problem?
Sentence insertion is an interesting NLP problem but received insufficient attention. Existing approaches in sentence ordering, text coherence, and question answering are neither suitable nor good enough at solving it. To bridge this gap, we propose InsertGNN, a simple yet effective model that represents the problem as a graph and adopts a hierarchical graph neural network (GNN) to learn the connection between sentences. We evaluate our method in our newly collected TOEFL dataset and further verify its effectiveness on the larger arXiv dataset using cross-domain learning. Extensive experiments demonstrate that InsertGNN outperforms all baselines by a large margin with an accuracy of 70\%, rivaling the average human test scores.
What Is The Best Artificial Intelligence App? - Dataconomy
What is the best artificial intelligence app, and what does it offer? Artificial Intelligence (AI) is one of the most well-known and renowned technologies of our time. New York City schools ban AI chatbot that writes essays and answers prompts
New York City schools have banned ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence chatbot that generates human-like writing including essays, amid fears that students could use it to cheat. According to the city's education department, the tool will be forbidden across all devices and networks in New York's public schools. Jenna Lyle, a department spokesperson, said the decision stems from "concerns about negative impacts on student learning, and concerns regarding the safety and accuracy of contents". ChatGPT was created by OpenAI, an independent artificial intelligence research foundation co-founded by Elon Musk in 2015. Released last November, OpenAI's chatbot is able to create stunningly human-like responses to a wide range of questions and various writing prompts. ChatGPT is trained on a large sample of text taken from the internet and interacts with users in a dialogue format.

New York City public schools ban OpenAI's ChatGPT
On Tuesday, New York City public schools banned ChatGPT from school devices and WiFi networks. The artificial intelligence-powered chatbot, released by OpenAI in November, quickly gained a foothold with the public -- and drew the ire of concerned organizations. In this case, the worry is that students will stunt their learning by cheating on tests and turning in essays they didn't write. ChatGPT (short for "generative pre-trained transformer") is a startlingly impressive application, a sneak preview of the light and dark sides of AI's incredible power. Like a text-producing version of AI art (OpenAI is the same company behind DALL-E 2), it can answer fact-based questions and write essays and articles that are often difficult to discern from human-written content.
ChatGPT Banned in New York City Public Schools Over Cheating Concerns
New York City public schools banned access to ChatGPT, an artificial-intelligence chatbot, on its internet networks and school devices after officials raised concerns that students could use the AI program to answer questions, do homework or write essays. ChatGPT quickly drew attention from the public and students after its November release, with some industry observers calling it one of the most intelligent AI applications ever created. The program crossed a million users a few days after its launch. And its popularity has been a boon to its developer, OpenAI, which the Journal reported this week is in talks to sell shares at a $29 billion valuation. That would make it one of the most valuable U.S. startups, on paper.
Online math tutoring service uses AI to help boost students' skills and confidence
Like many students around the world, Eithne, 14, in Chorley, United Kingdom, was struggling to keep up in math at school after more than a year of COVID-19 related disruptions. In June 2021, her parents signed her up for a summer program offered by Eedi, an online math tutoring service. "Just dealing with lockdown, she hadn't had enough of a really good background," said her mother, Arianna. "She missed most of the Year 7 Maths, then Year 8. So, we thought, 'Let's give it a go, let's see where she needs a bit of help.'" Newly enrolled students on Eedi are asked to take a dynamic quiz of 10 multiple choice diagnostic questions that the service uses to learn where students struggle most in math.
Should we study maths until we turn 18? Studies show dropping the subject impacts brain development
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak caused a stir earlier this week when he announced plans to force every student in England to study maths until the age of 18. In his speech, he said this was to ensure young people are better equipped for the'jobs of the future' by combating high rates of innumeracy in the UK. While many have criticised this agenda, including actor Simon Pegg, some scientific studies do support it. For example, a 2021 study from the University of Oxford found that quitting mathematical studies at the age of 16 may have an adverse effect on brain development. MailOnline takes a look at some of the studies which support or contradict Mr Sunak's controversial new plan to extend compulsory maths education (stock image) Pupils will be forced to take'some form' of maths delivered through new courses or existing qualifications Another study suggested that those who took maths at A-level had a salary 11 per cent higher than those who did not by age 33.
What are We Doing About AI Essays?
The November newsfeed heralded the arrival of AI essay writing. AI (or Artificial Intelligence) essay writing recruits online software that sifts through information and generates a thoughtful written analysis. Enter a prompt, and AI can turn out a reasonable essay on everything from utilitarianism to the Krebs cycle…for free. In truth, AI authorship hardly qualifies as "news." There is nothing new about it: AI has been generating blog content for online businesses for some time and is largely responsible for the current glut of meaningless search engine results.
