I want to try and bring some additional facts and sanity to this discussion, as most of the discussions I have seen are based on emotional and anecdotal responses. 'Young Frankenstein' Star Cloris Leachman Responds To Gene Wilder's Death

Actress Cloris Leachman issued a statement about the death of "Young Frankenstein" co-star Gene Wilder, who died from Alzheimer's disease Sunday. He was 83 years old. Leachman, 90, fondly remembered the actor, who starred in classic films like "Blazing Saddles" and "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory." "Gene was in a class by himself," her exclusive statement to People Magazine read Monday. "I looked up to him yet on the set he was just one of us. I remember when we were shooting'Young Frankenstein' there was a scene where I had to get the group up the stairs immediately. I had to say, 'Shtay close to zee candles' and turn toward him. As I turned around I could see his face was in two pieces. We had to do our scenes 14 times over because he'd be laughing so hard. Alas…alas… So, dear Gene, I vill say, Goodnight."


Sonos opens up: Spotify Connect and Amazon Echo control is coming

As much as Sonos is known for high-quality connected speakers, it's also built up a reputation for lackluster software and a closed ecosystem. And that's getting harder to live with as alternative platforms like Google's Cast (formerly Chromecast) are flourishing alongside smart partnerships (see Vizio's recent TVs) and inexpensive devices like the Chromecast Audio. So to course correct, Sonos announced today that it's opening up its platform to Spotify Connect, and it has also kicked off a "long-term strategic collaboration" with Amazon to integrate Echo voice control with its speakers. The Spotify Connect support, which is coming in a few weeks, will be particularly useful for anyone who's grown tired of Sonos's software. You'll be able to control the company's speakers from within any Spotify app.

Nasa has announced that it has found evidence of flowing water on Mars. The 'Intelligent' Robot That Became Racist

The study involved a self-learning artificial intelligence system, GloVe. It has the ability to read and interpret online text. "We replicate these using a widely used, purely statistical machine-learning model--namely, the GloVe word embedding--trained on a corpus of text from the Web," reads the study. But when researchers offered GloVe a list of white and black-sounding names, the robot went absolutely racist! The intelligent system identified names that are common among white people as "pleasant", while African-American names were categorized as "unpleasant" words. "Our results indicate that language itself contains recoverable and accurate imprints of our historic biases," the researchers told RNS.

As more cyber- threats arise every day, extensive research into prevention and detection schemes is being conducted globally. One of the issues faced is keeping up with the sheer mass of new emerging threats online. Traditional detection schemes are rule or signature based. The creation of a rule or signature relies on prior knowledge of the threats structure, source and operation, making it impossible to stop new threats without prior knowledge. Manually identifying all new and disguised threats is too time-consuming to be humanly possible.

To actually use machine learning with big data, it's crucial to learn how to deal with data that is too big to store or compute on a single computing machine. Today we will discuss fundamental concepts for working with big data using distributed computing, then introduce the tools you need to build machine learning models. We'll start with some naive methods of solving problems, which are meant only as an example. As we move forward, we will make things more realistic. MapReduce is a technique that is used to distribute a data set in parts to different agents. An agent here means a single computer.

Getting into machine learning (ml) can seem like an unachievable task from the outside. However, after dedicating one week to learning the basics of the subject, I found it to be much more accessible than I anticipated. This article is intended to give others who're interested in getting into ml a roadmap of how to get started, drawing from the experiences I made in my intro week. Before my machine learning week, I had been reading about the subject for a while, and had gone through half of Andrew Ng's course on Coursera and a few other theoretical courses. So I had a tiny bit of conceptual understanding of ml, though I was completely unable to transfer any of my knowledge into code.
