Following the news, the stock advanced more than 3 percent. However, it is merely a hobby for Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC). In a research note, the brokerage said, "We continue to insist that the right investment framework is based on Machine Learning Practitioners framework, as we presented it in our September 11 report." The lead analyst termed the semiconductor approach as flawed.
Robots will create a 'disruptive tidal wave' for human workers
Pepper the robot seems friendly now, but it may secretly be gunning for Neil deGrasse Tyson's job. Robots, self-driving cars and virtual assistants will eliminate 6 percent of all jobs in the US by 2021, according to a new report from Forrester Research. Customer service representatives will be the first positions affected, then truck and taxi drivers. But, employees working in any easy-to-automate job may be at threat, as businesses look to cut costs with these robots and intelligent assistants. "By 2021 a disruptive tidal wave will begin," the report stated. "Solutions powered by AI/cognitive technology will displace jobs, with the biggest impact felt in transportation, logistics and consumer services."
My Process for Learning Natural Language Processing with Deep Learning
I currently work as a Data Scientist for Informatica and I thought I'd share my process for learning new things. Recently I've been wanting to explore more into Deep Learning, especially Machine Vision and Natural Language Processing. I've been procrastinating a lot, mostly because it's been summer, but now that it's fall and starting to cool down and get dark early, I'm going to be spending more time learning when it's dark out. And the thing that deeply interests me is Deep Learning and Artificial Intelligence, partly out of intellectual curiosity and partly out of greed, as most businesses and products will incorporate Deep Learning/ML in some way. I started doing research and realized that an understanding and knowledge of Deep Learning was within my reach, but I also realized that I still have a lot to learn, more than I initially thought.
Are driverless cars pointless? Autonomous vehicles WON'T give us any more free time, says study
People hoping that the driverless cars of the future will give them more free time while travelling may be in for a disappointment. Increased productivity is one of the expected benefits of self-driving cars, but a new study claims that they will have little impact. The study showed that nearly nearly 36 percent of Americans say they would be so apprehensive using a driverless vehicle that they would only watch the road. Meanwhile UK drivers were even more cautious at 44 per cent. The average vehicle trip is only around 19 minutes long which doesn't give enough time for any sustained productive activity, say the researchers.

Nearly 60 percent of US smartphone owners use phones to manage health
US consumers are getting more comfortable using mobile devices to manage their health, a new study finds. Even in the face of privacy concerns, Americans are increasingly sharing medical information, sending photos to their doctors, using fitness or activity trackers, and using AI to become active players in their healthcare. Ketchum, a global research and analytics firm, conducted an online survey of 2,000 smartphone-owning Americans earlier this year, and found close to 58 percent of this group uses their phone to communicate with a medical professional. Almost half of respondents have a fitness, health or medication-tracking app, and 83 percent of people who use fitness or workout apps do so at least once per week. Of course, not everyone loves health apps – about a quarter of survey respondents said health and fitness tracking apps have made them feel bad, with 21 percent ending use of the apps.

Machine learning could help the diagnosis of drug-resistant epilepsy News
A new study published in the scientific journal PLOS One has shown that a type of computer modelling called'machine learning' can pick up areas of damage in the brain which are associated with drug-resistant epilepsy. This means that people with drug-resistant epilepsy could be diagnosed much more quickly, enabling them more timely access to appropriate treatment. The authors of the study also suggest that this new technology could potentially be used to diagnose other conditions such as multiple sclerosis and dementia. A new smartphone app called myCareCentric Epilepsy has been successfully piloted at Poole Hospital to help those with epilepsy and medical staff to monitor the condition. The app works with an existing technology, the Microsoft wristband.
Mizuho, Softbank partner on AI-based no-outlet consumer lending firm
Mizuho Bank and Softbank Group Corp. on Thursday agreed to set up a 50-50 joint company to provide loans to consumers using artificial intelligence technology. Using customers' business histories with both firms for credit screening, the new firm will provide an innovative, attractive loan service through low-cost operations without outlets, Mizuho Bank and Softbank said. Capitalized at 5 billion, the new company will be established in November. Its operations are seen starting in the first half of 2017. Inc., the parent of Mizuho Bank, and Softbank President Masayoshi Son announced the launch of the new company at a press conference in Tokyo.
