An Egg-Shaped Drone Built To Nestle Into A Backpack
These clumsy noisy human-built flying machines put human eyes into previously avian domains, scaring bears and provoking all sorts of natural animal rage. PowerVision Robot's new drone isn't just an attempt to usurp the sky from its feathered forebearers. No, their elaborate flying camera has the audacity to be egg-shaped, an affront to the entire lifecycle of the beasts of the sky. They believe their PowerEgg will be light enough to fit in a backpack, complete with a "360 Panoramic, 4K HD Camera, 3-axis Gimbal," according to their press release. It is also, notably, egg-shaped.
Conversational commerce: killer direct channel or just plain confusing?
Driving so-called'conversational commerce' is the next phase in the travel company-customer relationship but it's a complicated affair, as Pamela Whitby has been finding out In what Thomson is hailing as an'industry first', last week the holiday group said it would trial a travel search tool using IBM's Watson Technology, which uses natural language processing (NLP) and artificial intelligence to allow computers to think like a human. In a company press release, Jeremy Osborne, Director of Strategic Innovation, TUI UK&I is quoted saying: "We wanted to test whether a conversational search experience would resonate with our customers as a new, fun and easy way to find their ideal holiday". And the response, it seems, was overwhelmingly positive with 77% of participants in the survey saying they would find a virtual assistant useful. The idea is that Thomson customers will be able to interact via a simple chat interface to get responses in real-time to their holiday queries. For the uninitiated, this may sound like Thomson is launching a chat bot. But the group's conversational tool, which is still in beta, is still one step away from this. IBM's Watson Technology, which Thomson is using, is not a chat bot solution in itself, but rather a tool to use for NLP and eventually artificial intelligence that will help make bots smarter.

If people take advantage of this program, Watson could make sure their supposedly "smart" products aren't quite as elementary as they are now. Project Intu is supposed to expand Watson's influence even further.

The same Microsoft technology currently used by healthcare organizations and yes, robots, is now being tested throughout the summer months by Cricket Australia, making it the first cricketing nation to integrate the company's team and player performance platform into its decision-making processes across fitness, game strategy, player recovery and team selection. As part of the new deal with Microsoft, Cricket Australia is now one of a few sports organizations worldwide experimenting with the new platform. At the recent Microsoft Australia Developer Conference, Chief Executive Officer Satya Nadella said he was "glad" with how Cricket Australia was planning to integrate "machine learning" into its overarching strategy. "Cricket is one of the richest sports when it comes to using machine data. But how could you harness the power of data to even start having a more intelligent informed conversation about performance of teams, performance of players?"
